Wasn't it that the small big block had painted covers but the optional HP big blocks had chrome? Since '72 did not have an optional HP BB it only came with painted.

Are you sure it says ZDD and not ZBD? ZBD was used in 80. There should be another number stamped on the stamp pad. Check it to see if the last 5 or 6 digits match the end of your VIN. If on match then.....
The engine is not original and any thing else you put in it will still not be...
John,
You mean that there is no stamping/part # on the case that would id the trans? Seems like that would have been a real problem on the assembly line.
My bad. I was reading those numbers as the starting, not the ending. So forget everything I said. Sorry. But I have never seen those squared off zeros before.

Let me throw my two cents in here. The VIN is 20513 which would be an early Feb build (19258 through 22366 were feb builds). If the engine assembly is in reality 0301, March 01, then the engine was assembled after the car was built. Also, I am no where near the expert but I have not seen a...
Just wondering, are these legal copies of the service manual? Most of these that I have seen floating around the net on other makes/models are illegal copies.

In the VIN, the 6 before the A indicates it is an L82.
The K04 02 CGC I am assuming is stamped on the block in front of the passanger side head. Correct? The CGC is the engine usage code. CGC was a 1971 350ci used in...
The L82 emblems started in '75. Factory never used an L48 emblem.
Basicly the largest engine was the only one posted on the hood. In 75 the L82 was the big one. Prior to that, 73 and 74, the 454 was the only emblem used.

Would have been much easier to just register it as an antique (no inspection), then work on it at your leasure and when done change the registration to regular and get it inspected.

Hummmm, Window sticker, or should I say the "Consumer Information" sticker, that came on my '04 states:

A lot of those with the LT1/BB hood are nothing more than hood swaps. Somewhere in the history an owner liked the look of the LT1/BB hood so they just made a simple switch.
