trouble shifting into 3rd gear after tranny is warm

After my transmission is warm I sometimes have trouble with not shifting into 3rd gear (350 thm). If I go to neutral then back into drive it will shift. It also kicks down into 2nd well after it should as in if I am going 70, it kicks down almost hitting redline. I thought I'd post this before...

    Vapor lock with my 79?

Hi Tom, I figured I am running rich. I purchased the tool to fit the mixture screws BTW. I took the air cleaner off after I got the engine good and warm and I noticed fuel squirting out when I worked the throttle. I tried to adjust using a vacuum gauge, but it didn't seem to cooperate. I...

Optional tire size for 82... will they fit?

I'm running 255's (Cooper Cobra) on my 77. They fit fine, look great, grip the road better than the 225's. It was a good move. Gonna do the same to my 79.

    Vapor lock with my 79?

Twice now I have ran the engine warm now. I removed the air cleaner and I'm getting gas from the float bowl. I believe I'm running too rich. I then discovered I need a 4.5 mm hex which I need to find. I'll buy one somewhere, and adjust the idle mixture with a vacuum gauge, and see if this...

    Vapor lock with my 79?

Yes, that would get me closer to what really is going on. The issue happens when the weather is warm, not during cool weather. I do have a rubber fuel line coming from the fuel pump, I removed it from the carb to reroute it away from engine heat. When I unclamped it no fuel leaked from the...

    Vapor lock with my 79?

Since the weather has been warmer, I have been getting some minor vapor lock with my 79 L48. I don't get it with my 77 though. They are essentially the same engine, but I have a performance cam on the 79, the only difference. Yesterday I had a difficult time getting it started after sitting...

Help! 1981 Turn Signal Flasher Causes Voltmeter to 'Tick'

Yes, corrosion can be an issue on old cars. Some leave the windows down, top down in the summer, but the night moisture can get into the interior electronics. I had a cig lighter that was too rusty to get any contact, so I replaced it. Moisture.

    Vacuum advance issues, and questions.

Ok, so the previous mechanic put the check valve meant for the EFE was on the vacuum advance hose. GEEZ! I know this seems like small stuff but timing and vacuum advance stuff is all about drivability which matters to me. Thank you for the tips Tom, and the diagram Wayback!

    Vacuum advance issues, and questions.

Are you saying the check valve was for EGR, and not for vacuum advance?

    1970 vette battery drain

One place to check is your spare tire area. There is a light bulb that could be on, but you can't see it till you remove your spare.

    Vacuum advance issues, and questions.

Odd x 10 I don't know how I could have overlooked the unplugged unused port, but I did. I did run a vacuum hose from the distributor directly to the proper port, and It ran without a problem. The check valve thing is bugging me though. I don't know what use a check valve is supposed to...

    Vacuum advance issues, and questions.

Hello Tom, yes it still works. Long story, but I noticed the vacuum advance was on the center port of the Q jet, and the driver side port was open and causing a vacuum leak. When I plugged the side port, the engine was running rough with an intermittent miss. I looked at a diagram which...

    Vacuum advance issues, and questions.

I timed my 77 L48, when doing so I noticed the vacuum line that comes from the distributor connects to a thermal switch (probably controlled by water temp) then a check valve, then to the port on the carb. Is it necessary to have a thermal switch, and a check valve? the check valve allows air...

    Differential fluid change

Thank you Tom, I ended up taking the big leap and used the NAPA stuff. The differential and posi work fine. Thanks again.

    Differential fluid change

I am preparing to replace the differential fluid in my 79 (Eaton). I've read some say always use GM additive, and I've also read using NAPA etc is fine also. Is there a real difference? Is there such a thing as too much additive? My plan is Valvoline GL5, plus NAPA additive. Input would be...

    EGR delete

I like it better with the junk off, runs just fine, so why clutter up the engine? (that was a rhetorical question). I detest that early emissions junk mandated by bureaucrats.

    EGR delete

Well, I have had the EGR delete for a while now, and nothing bad has happened. I really miss the tangled mess of vacuum lines, but I'll get over it. No pinging either, part throttle, or full. My other Vette I replaced the intake with a Edlebrock performer that came EGR delete. There isn't a...

    air shocks??

That's what my thoughts were Doug, it just looked really nice. The top shock mount looks weak for sustained pressure the air shocks would give it, so... now I should replace the spring(s). I'm not crazy about the fiberglass monosprings, so maybe stock replacements will do.

    air shocks??

I was inspecting the underneath of my 79, and I discovered that the previous owner installed air shocks on it. I put about 50 lbs of air in them, and it brought the back end up nicely (where it should be). That's probably why they are there due to tired leaf spring. My guess is that the upper...

    EGR delete

Before I red your post I replaced the thermal switch with a brass plug, and plugged the vacuum hose that goes to the canister. I drove it about 15 miles, and everything seemed ok. I could put the thermal switch back in if I have issues. My idle seemed to be lower, Maybe I had a small vacuum...
