With These C3's It NEVER Stops

Well that's cool about the daily driver thing. People spend a lot more for a new Mercedes sport ute or what ever do daily drive. I only drive my Vette when it's dry, and NEVER in the winter, so I'll naturally have less to go wrong than you will. Have you ever thought of getting a beater for...

With These C3's It NEVER Stops

Isn't the irony of having a car that's 30-40 something years old, is they weren't designed to last this long, but you're still driving it today?

    rebuilt differential break in

GTR, It sounds like you know your way around these pigs inside and out, backwards and forward. I would have to print your post, and bring it to the man doing the rebuild. Why not synthetic? If I use GL5, then why do I need the additive? Waste of money, or to slippery? What about...

With These C3's It NEVER Stops

Well toobroke, it never seems to quit no matter what car ya drive. Although you probably were sold an inferior part, do you really you that feature? I only use washer fluid with cars I drive through the winter to remove road salt.

    rebuilt differential break in

My mechanic whom I have a fair amount of trust for is doing the rebuild. Are you saying that if it is the carrier bearing, then the ring and pinion gears could still be good?

    rebuilt differential break in

It makes noise both when I am accelerating, and coasting. It could be a bad bearing, but the gears could have been wearing new flats because of it. I will know when it gets pulled apart. If I don't have to buy new gears, then I'll be very happy, but I'm not optimistic.

    rebuilt differential break in

Yikes! 500 miles sounds like an eternity in my vette. Yes, I probably will have the ring and pinion replaced. I have been listening to a whining noise for as long as I have owned the car. I can hear it over the exhaust when the tops are on. The best way to describe it, is it sounds similar...

    rebuilt differential break in

I'm going to have my differential rebuilt for my 77. Is there a protocol for breaking in the gears?

    Leaded fuel additive

Vettehead, you are saying that back in 70-71 GM hardened valve seats because they were anticipating the use of unleaded fuel in the near future, so these engines would be compatible with unleaded fuel?

    Leaded fuel additive

This was over 10 years ago, but I was told that unleaded gas was hard on the valves/seats, and a lead substitute would help this. It was a 360 ford engine, and I didn't have a engine ping problem, but I was still concerned about the valve issue, so I used it. It was running well when I sold...

    Leaded fuel additive

Well Vettehead, I would just wait till there aren't any cops looking if I needed it. A few years back I owned a 69 pickup, and i added a lead substitute concentrate. It said it was for "off street use only", but I made sure I didn't add it in front of the police. I still don't actually know...

    Tire choices for the C3

This is how I feel. I don't like the low profile tire/big wheel look on older Vettes.

    Does Anyone Use STP?

I called STP awhile back, and they wouldn't tell me how much zddp was in the bottle. The person on the other end was very guarded when she spoke, as if they were concerned about some kind of liability. I have been using Rotella also since it has enough zddp for non roller engines. Much less...

    Does Anyone Use STP?

I've use it in worn out engines before, but it's hard to tell if the stuff is really helping with anything. With a non-roller engine, I would just get a good oil with 1200 ppm zddp or more. If you just can't resist using STP, then wait till the engine is good and warm, then slowly add when the...

    Fan Clutch Eliminators

The clutch is supposed to free up engine power when the fan is not needed, so if a fan clutch is working properly, then why eliminate it?

    195 Degree Thermostats

I don't believe my Vette would stay at 180* during the summer around here, or I would run a 160. Solution? DON'T your car in the winter!

Why This Recent Obsession For C3 Weight Reduction?

As far as C3 curb weight goes, I believe that aftermarket vendors have created a solution in search of a problem. If you want a lighter sports car, then get a MGB. If performance is such a big issue, then why start with an antiquated old school sports car like the beloved C3? Except for my...

Annoying Battery Drain In A '82

I have a drain similar to this on my 77. I tried to find it, then I had my mechanic try to find it. I installed a knife style kill switch on the battery. So when I am not driving it for extended periods, I just reach behind the seat and kill the power. Good security also. I still would like...

    1980 seat adjustments

Actually, I did as the instructions you posted, before you posted them. I used a channel lock to turn the bottom bolts after I applied some PB blast to the threads. I just couldn't get enough torque out of a phillips. I figure I got about an inch of recline, and it feels fairly satisfactory.

    Voltmeter needle seems too high

I looked, and looked, for the life of me I can't find a lamp anywhere in the back. Could it be that you are thinking of a different year? The 77 doesn't have a fast back. It was the last year of the perpendicular rear window.
