    planning ahead for motor reassembly

I LOVE Indian Head. Sometimes, in the middle of the night, I'll sneak out into the garage, open a bottle and sniff it. :) Seriously, I'm no engine expert, but I've been using Indian Head gasket compound/shellac for 40 years. I use it on gaskets, and also on intake and water pump bolts...

    rebuilt title effect $ ?

A rebuilt or salvage title is the kiss of death at resale time, unless it's dirt cheap. Chuck

even the simple stuff I can make difficult

Moi? MY glass bead cabinet is <gulp> contaminated? :D You're 100% right. The grease, Armor All, oil, and other crap is somewhat recirculated. I'd try the lacquer thinner, the "heat trick" and maybe even some white vinegar (which is great for removing Armor All) Chuck

even the simple stuff I can make difficult

The glass beading went well. :) You can hang out at my place anytime, Barry. I'd try wiping with lacquer thinner to remove contaminants. I'd also make sure the parts are warm. Vinegar works well to remove silicone (ArmorAll). I don't use primers under rattle can paints unless I'm trying...

got a sand blast cabinet, now what media do I use?

My cabinet has a large vacuum tank...about 4 foot tall. It "sucks" the dust out of the cabinet. I've never worried about respiratory problems. It doesn't put out any dust. :) Sandblasting I do outside, very infrequently. I wear a mask and a hood. I have a siphon blaster and use...

got a sand blast cabinet, now what media do I use?

I have a rather small TIP blast cabinet. I've had it for about 15 years. Works great. I use nothing but glass beads. Chuck

    "whileyouareatityoumightaswellas" is a bad disease

I've got a hoist you can borrow. :) Get it outta my basement. I'm tired of tripping on it. You can have it on "semi permanent" loan. Chuck

    HELP!! radiator issue

It sure looks like a DeWitts. Another alternative....try to find someone local to you who can TIG weld. They could replace the bung, or add some aluminum and re-tap it for you. OR....you could just try some epoxy/JB Weld, etc. and re-tap it yourself. Chuck

    HELP!! radiator issue

I'd try buying a new petcock first, one without boogered threads. It's not that tough, at this stage of the game, to pull the radiator. As you said, 6 bolts on the shroud, the top bracket, and yank it out. I just put my new DeWitts in the car a few weeks ago before tearing the rear end out...

    Chrome bumpers for vettes '73-'82

Besides the brackets, etc., you'd need to modify the front fenders and surround panels. Same on the rear. Sell it and buy a 68-72. :) Chuck

    HELP!! radiator issue

Doesn't look TOO hateful. Does the original petcock fit and tighten at all? I wonder if pipe dope/thread sealant would help. Also, I wonder if an oversize petcock is available. Chuck

Yes, exactly in the same places. Chuck

    C2 on jackstands - 2 questions

That's what I do. I've been doing it for decades. Never "rolled" a car, never even close. Takes about 10 minutes to get it on 4 stands. Chuck

    Radiator Core Support Repair

Coffman Corvette (do a Google) makes them. I believe they make all of them. For many years, they were in Ohio. I "think" that they might have moved their operation to Florida. They make convertible top bows and all other kinds of neat stuff. Chuck

    Dealer Zone Number Help

If it were me, I'd set it up with Zones. Then, I'd try to determine which states or parts of states are within each zone. Just because it says "Pittsburgh Zone" doesn't mean it's only in PA. It could include eastern Ohio and part if not all of West Virginia. I have a map which I'll...

    Dealer Zone Number Help

Look at the original sticker Wally Knoch posted. Looks like 26 336 on the top. That's Zone 26, Dealer 336. Zone 26.....JACKSONVILLE, FLA, (Became Tampa Zone) (from the list I posted) Dealer 336 SO, Dumas Milner Chevy, Miami, FLA is Dealer 336 within Zone 26. You've begun your...

    Dealer Zone Number Help

The Zone Number data base is what I posted. That is the database. It's the Dealer numbers within each zone that remains a puzzle. Dealer 223 in Zone 11 is different from Dealer 223 in Zone 13. :) These numbers are printed on the tank sticker on 67 and up Corvettes. They're also on...

In quest of a SAFE Mechanical E-brake...!!!

AMEN, John. I might add that the Parking Brake on my 69 holds just fine. If the shoes are adjusted, and the cables are adjusted, it works "as intended". Chuck
