Close. When the system fails, the system goes into "open" loop. And yes, it runs rich. It is designed to default to a setting drivable to the dealership. When the system "fails", the check engine light comes on, and sets a memory code. Check your lamp. Does it come on when starting up?

Code 12 is computer operating normally. Ideally, all you want to see is code 12.

The timing is adjusted with the 4 pin harness from the dizzy to the computer unplugged. You can also adjust the idle speed on the carb.

Yep. Buy a crate engine for $1,400. Warranty and all. All you have is a pile of crap. You won't bring it back for $1,400. And yes, it's snapped. Flat lobes don't bend pushrods. Pistons hitting valves do.

I find adjustable vacuum cans to be a nightmares at best. He could get a 12* unit if he has problems. They are easy to change.
