    Replacing C4 steering wheel

I did not have a satisfactory experience with the vendor that you mentioned, for my 1986 corvette. He sent me a broken steering wheel puller, and the quality of the stitching for the new steering wheel wasn't that great, especially in the inside corners, it looked pretty amateurish, the edges of...

    Question: Need new glass roof

If I could chime in, I bought from the vendor in question a couple of years ago and the item was as described and I was happy with it, but their customer service is very poor. I got the impression that they were doing me a favor by selling me the piece to begin with. It doesn't take much to...

How Will Corvette Attract Younger Buyers To Continue Decades Long Customer Base?

I don't understand this thread at all. The Corvette is selling relatively well, if it wasn't then Chevrolet would discontinue it. It's pretty amazing that the car has survived this economy. Most younger people can't afford this car to begin with, it's been like this since the car was...

so tired of ppl asking me why i dont drive a newer vette

I have to admit I was pretty sensitive to comments like that when I had my last c4. But the one that really got to me was when I drove up to get new tires put on at Sears and a guy came out, looked at my car, and said "wow, you hardly ever see these any more." lol I just laughed at him. I...

    A/C replacement - Need Help

Lucky3 is correct, it is 8 oz of oil for a completely evacuated and flushed system, whether the system is R12 or R134a. I would usually put 2 oz of oil each in all four parts: accumulator, evaporator, condenser, compressor, for a total of 8 oz.

    C4 less problems...

I always loved c4s, i owned 3 of them (and spent many, many weekends repairing them), but my c6 has been virtually trouble-free.

    Suspension question

Actually, that looks like a stock ride height for a c4 convertible, I doubt that anyone actually raised it. I notice the convertibles are higher than coupes anyway, for the reason that Hib mentioned: ground clearance for the cross brace. The factory seems to have tinkered around with c4...

Warning! You will encounter SEVERE levels of stupidity if you drive a vette in Ireland

lol just call it a yank tank next time i hardly ever see corvettes outside of the u.s., in a tour of new zealand a couple of years ago i saw exactly one. in paris awhile back i saw a c3, never saw a single one in the u.k. or ireland, but i saw 5 of them in germany. it's a rare creature...

    Audio system noise

Actually this sounds exactly like an amp problem, once the capacitors on the printed circuit board start going out, you get all kinds of engine interference. You can either have the amps rebuilt by Bose or replace them with parts from the catalog guys.

    Help! 1986 Front Speaker Install

I've removed the dash a million times on the early c4s I owned. Did you tilt the steering wheel down as far as it will go? You just have to keep trying, eventually it goes in. You may have to bend the metal tabs down a bit to get them to cooperate. And don't try to get all four of them in at...

I hate the color Polo Green

We all have likes and dislikes when it comes to colors, what a boring world it would be if everyone liked the same thing. But since everyone is chiming in with their opinion, green and purple are my least favorite Corvette colors. I guess that means more green out there for those of you who...

    Bottoming out

The car is quite low, and occasionally it will scrape if you're not careful. Lots of C4s have evidence of bottoming out, usually showing up on the drivers and passenger side floor pans. One of my c4s actually had a big hole in the floorboard. If you're shopping for c4s, this is not a...

    Friggin' front spoiler

It's relatively inexpensive, and easy to replace, basically it's a maintenance item.

    Help! Leaning in right rear

I'm not 100% sure what you mean by "leaning". What exactly is leaning, the body, the wheel, what? If it's the wheel, it's very common for the camber bolt to loosen over time, causing the wheel to appear crooked. As someone else pointed out, you need a rear end alignment if this is the case...

C5'6 and C6's, SOME OF THEM ALL LOOK ALIKE

I drove and loved c4s for many years, and I still think it's a great driver's car but I would never trade my c6 for one. Sorry to say this, but it's light years ahead of the c4 in almost every conceivable way. And if it looks too much like a c5 to some people, I think I can live with that.

    Have you replaced your carpet?

Be careful removing the console sides, they are brittle and can easily break. Also, be careful around the gas pedal bracket, with the slightest bump it will break and it's not repairable, you have to buy a new one. It was designed for up-and-down movement, not side-to-side. It took me two...

GM Still To Re-Badge Holden Commodore As U.S. Cop Car

Yeah me too. They have all these really cool-looking cars in NZ and australia, it's about time they start thinking about bringing them to the u.s.

    looking for an egr solenoid

solenoids are very reliable, it's basically just a magnet. i have a hunch it's the egr valve itself, and possibly one or more leaks in the vacuum line, they get very brittle after awhile. but the code 32 is notoriously difficult to trace or fix on the l98, i used to get it occasionally in my...

    Interior dyes

My one experience with interior dye was several years ago. I went from red to black on a c4, did all my prep work, primed, and dyed. It looked terrific when I was done. I did the door panels, console, and e-brake cover. Unfortunately, over time, where my elbow rested on the door panel, the...

    Targa Top OUT?!?

If it were detrimental to the chassis for the roof panel to be removed under any circumstances (barring common sense) it would say so in the owner's manual and/or the service manual. It will not "weaken the chassis", that's good old american steel holding your car together. It's not going...
