    Drilling Holes In Thermostats

I drill my thermostats with a single hole as I believe it helps burp the system of any air trapped in the block when changing out the coolant. There is one brand of thermostats, Robertshaw?, that sells a thermostat already with the hole pre-drilled.

Engine Oil...............Which Brand And Weight Do You Run?

I use the Shell Rotella 10w-40 in mine. Dad left me bunches of it when he passed away. Lucas also makes a zppd additive that one can use with regular motor oil.

    Rear spring changes

I have the Vette Brakes 360 lb spring on my 72 LT-1 car. Front springs are 550 lb. Shocks are Koni's (wife thinks it has telephone poles for shocks). It rides a bit rough, you do feel the bumps in the road. But it is fun to take the AC belt off and let it rip. I attempted to run a 5/8" ( I...

    Tires

Couple of random thoughts here. Have no data to support this, but to me, it seems as a tire ages, it tends to lose it grip. Guessing that as the rubber ages, it hardens. My cars are not daily drivers, more like monthly drivers. BFG suggests that if you don;t use your car on a regular basis, to...

replacing heater core in 77 Corvette w/air

It's mainly time consuming. You'll need to remove the "box" under the dash which will require accessing mounting screws on the engine side of the firewall. Way easier than one on a Fox body Mustang.

82 vette a.c. on floor, not much flow out vents

One possible reason your compressor isn't kicking on could be the system is low on freon. There is a low pressure cutout switch on the accumulator which keeps the compressor from running when the system is low. One way to check is to by-pass the switch. The switch is mounted on the accumulator...

    1972 Power Antenna

@DMX - There is no wiring for the antenna beyond the rear storage compartment so it looks like it has never been powered up. There are 3 wires leading into the antenna but I do know which wire to power up and what the other 2 may be for other than possibly a ground. I would think a relay would...

    1972 Power Antenna

As Mikey has pointed out, '72's didn't come with power antennas. 1978 was the first year that the U75 power antenna was offered as an option for C3's. Since your power antenna isn't probably means that either the motor went bad or the drive cable suffered a failure. The aftermarket antennas...

    The Seventh Hole

Passenger cars had side mounted transmission mounts, but 53-57 Corvettes had a rear transmission crossmember & cushion that secured the tailshaft of the transmission. Passenger car and Corvette engine mounts & transmission mounts have nothing in common with each other. So have we now become...

    Rear Suspension

Looking at your first picture, it appears to me that you don't have a stock exhaust system. Am I just looking at the exhaust pipes wrong?

    Rear Suspension

My suggestion would be to forget about air shocks and take another look at the rear suspension. When you say the suspension is bottoming out, are you sure the trailing arms are hitting the frame bump stops? It's possible what you think is noise of the suspension bottoming out could be noise from...

cheap velco left stain parking brake console

One problem encountered with re-dying hard plastic interior pieces is silicon contamination from the use of Armor-all type protectant products. In preparing your plastic parts, you should wear some sort of nitrile gloves to prevent transfering body oils to the plastic pieces while cleaning &...

Better To Use Genuine Holley Rebuild Kits

I have heard that & similar comments for the 40 or so years I have been playing with Corvettes. I believe such comments may come from either bad needle & seats or accelerator pump diaphragms found in cheap rebuild kits such as what TBTR was commenting one. I never had a problem with aftermarket...

Better To Use Genuine Holley Rebuild Kits

Actually, Holley offers 3 different "level" of carburator kits - For four barrel applications, They have a refresh kit which is just a gasket set, a rebuild kit which is gaskets and small parts set, and then they have a trick kit, which has additional parts such as extra bowl & metering block...

    A Winter Carbon Monoxide Warning

So you have a shop with a heater as an ignition source and a covered 5 gallon bucket of air cleaner cleaning solution? That's sounds like the making of a BJ you'll never forget....

82 vette a.c. on floor, not much flow out vents

When it comes to replacing vacuum lines, I like to use the Dr. Rebuild vacuum line kits. His lines are the same I.D./O.D. as the originals and are color coded the same as the originals. In addition, his vacuum line kits come with a color coded diagram showing the line routing which really eases...

    Pre-Mixed Antifreeze

I saw his answer and chose to ignore it, replacing his reality with my own. :D I would hope that my answer was technically correct for having spent two summers working in a antifreeze plant.

    Pre-Mixed Antifreeze

Antifreeze is just a mix of ethylene gylcol, borax and a dye to give it color. I use the premix 50/50 Preston from Wally World and change the coolant out on a yearly basis. I haven't seen any non premix antifreeze locally for some time now.

    78 fuel line gets clogged.

Sorry, I called it a sock filter, as it just slips over the end of the fuel pick-up line. Corvette Central calls it a "Gas Tank Meter Strainer", part number 362209. http://www.parts123.com/corvettecentral/partsort.pta?catalog=cadefib&partno=362209 If you replace the strainer, you probably will...
