With These C3's It NEVER Stops

Don't feed the troll, Don't feed the troll, BUT I can't decide if you are the most un-luckiest Corvette owner I have never met or if you are a tinker who is always F'ing with your car and creating your own problems. In 45 years of Corvette ownership, I can't think of a single person who has had...

    Replacing exhaust manifold gaskets

As noted, there is no gasket between the head and the exhaust manifold. But Fel Pro and Victor Reinz both offer a gasket for that location. Fel Pro part number is MS9275B. Victor Reinz part number is 95090SG or 95094SG. My favorite rusty nut soak is Kroil. I would recommend that before...

    Old School A/C versus conversion

I have a '69 that will be getting converted to R34, due to it's going to need new hoses and a condenser. With my two '72's, I'll continue to paddle the R12 canoe, thanks to a R12 donation by good friend. If one of those need new components, then I'll go R34 with them.

    rebuilt differential break in

Noise in the rear axle, especially when coasting, could be a bad bearing.

    '81 Exhaust - Hooker Headers

@ Dirtypants - If you want to go with a cast iron exhaust manifold, you can use any of the factory Corvette ramhorn manifolds. Dorman makes both the 2" low performance manifold and the 2-1/2" hi-performance manifold. If you go with the 2" manifold, for exhaust pipes, you have a choice of using...

    Dyno............Who Needs A Dyno?

If you are running forced induction, an hour of dyno time is cheap compared to burning a hole in a piston. To self tune, one needs at least a datalogger, like the Innovate LC with a wideband to tell what's going on.

    Tire choices for the C3

The downside of a performance tire is short tread life. The Pilots must be pretty soft to only last 12,000 miles. The TA Radial was really the first street performance tire available. John Greenwood used shaved TA's in Trans Am racing back in the early '70's to take to the winner's circle. Due...

GTR1999 - Rear Axle Parts Questions For You.

LOL Gary, you have confused me with Twobroke. I was asking questions pertaining to my '69. Of the two us, I would like to think I'm prettier than Twobroke. :L Again, thanks for the opinion, as you told me what I needed & wanted to know. I'll look up your posts on DC. Bob

Help! Quadrajet - Heat Insulator between intake and carb - guidance needed

Originally, your car was equipped with a thick carb base gasket from the factory, which offered some heat insulating value. A thick Q-jet gasket is available thru most of the Corvette suppliers. In addition, GM offered a thick gasket/aluminum heat shield for '70 model California Corvettes. It is...

GTR1999 - Rear Axle Parts Questions For You.

Well crud, Gary, I was afraid you might say something like this. Tossing the differential and stub axles into the swap meet pile leaves me with a empty case and a gear set. The car currently has a 2:75-ish rear end. The previous owner fubar'd the original 3:08. According to his wife and son, he...

    Tire choices for the C3

The three tires you list are all good tires, and will probably give you good service. I would say buy the one you can get the best price on. However. I hate to say this as it dates me, but I have been using the BFG TA radial on all my cars for more than 40 years. Have only had a problem with...

GTR1999 - Rear Axle Parts Questions For You.

I have seen reference to a “Type A”(big block) rear axle and a “Type B” (small block) rear axle. My understanding is the difference between the two is the big block model had gears sets made of high nickel alloy for impact resistence, 400 pound pre-load springs, and the cap type stub axles. Were...

Why This Recent Obsession For C3 Weight Reduction?

A ZL-1 427 powered C3 (1970 coupe) is a blast to drive. Big block torque with the weight of a small block. Weight reduction at it's best.

    195 Degree Thermostats

The Corvette cockpit is small enough that it doesn't take long to warm it up in winter, with a 180* or 195* t'stad. Don't know about Canada, but here in Texas, in dead of winter, put top down, crank up the heater and drive on.

    E-85 Gasoline

I run E85 in my turbo car. It's great to be able to turn the boost up from 15 psi to 24 psi. Easy way to pick up horsepower with a few computer mods and change of injectors.

Question: Looking for a fan shroud for my 1974 L82

Corvette Central or Zip Corvette should be able to supply you with a fan shroud. Corvette Central currently has a Father's Day free shipping deal that's good until midnight 06/14/2016. Free shipping code is DAD16. Not associated with CC or Zip except as a returning customer. Back to your fan...

    Ignition Switch Problem

As you know, there is a rod that runs from the lock assembly to the starter switch thru the steering column. There is a clip that fastens the rod to the lock assembly. If the clip has somehow came off, the rod can slip out of it's place and jam up the lock assembly.

    Question: emblems 74 vette

Body emblems for your '74 are mounted bare to the body, i.e. no caulk, adhesive or mounting tape required. Emblems should have mounting studs on their backside which fit into pre-drilled holes in the body and secured with a speed nut. As far as I know, the CORVETTE letters for the tail light...
