    Question: 79 windshield question

As mentioned, the windshield in your '79 is glued in. If you are experiencing water leaks, most likely you have a rust hole in the windshield frame. Rust in the birdcage area is common in C2 & C3 models as GM didn't do much to protect this area of the car from corrosion. Removal of the...

Review: Rear Axle Gear Selection for 1972 Big Block

Hi Gary, I was hoping that you might drop in & offer an opinion. Based on what I'm reading, 3:36's may be a better deal, as the car is used on weekends for what I refer to as town & country driving. Still going to try the 3:55's out of my LT-1 car. I really like the 3:55's with the LT-1 but it...

Review: Rear Axle Gear Selection for 1972 Big Block

Thank you for the reply. My concerns didn't factor in the AC compressor longevity. It's extra work, but I'm now leaning toward pulling the 3:55 rear axle out of my LT-1 car and trying them in the LS-5 car. Thanks again. Bob

Help! 76 L48 Mini Starter Help!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't know about the Powermaster starter, but have seen similar comments about the GM Performance #12361146 high torque mini starter. Complaints with it centered around properly shimming the starter and that additional shims were required for some while others had no luck at all to get it to fit...

Review: Rear Axle Gear Selection for 1972 Big Block

I have a 72 coupe with the LS-5 motor, M20 wide ratio 4 speed and air conditioning. Currently, the rear gears are 3:08's and is in need of rebuilt. I would like to upgrade to 3:55's. But looking at GM literature, from 1968 to 1974, Chevrolet never offered a M20/3:55/air combination with the 454...

    Auto-manual conversion?

A T-5 is a internal shift rail and the shift tower sets farther back than where the shifter would be on a Muncie or BW 4 speed. Which means the shift lever won't line up to the hole in the console. You would be looking at major mods to fit one in a Corvette. Plus GM never offered the T-5 behind...

    76 steering wheel

It's the Vega steering wheel that Chevrolet saw fit to use on the non-tilt columns '76's. As far as I know, the T&T column used a regular steering wheel. Chevrolet went to a different column on the '77 Corvette. If you have the Vega steering wheel type, you could always change it out for a...

    Question: Painting my restoration Corvettes

Acrylic lacquer is available from TCP Global thru their restoration shop, mixed to the paint code on your trim plate. In fact, they can furnish your required color in different paint systems if you don't want to go the lacquer route. If your car is a non-metallic solid color, then a single stage...

    Control arms

The ends of the cross shaft is drilled and tapped for a large washer and bolt. With the end bolts and washers removed from the ends, the cross shaft should move stiffly by hand, depending on how tight the bushings fit the cross shaft ends. If binding badly with the end bolts and washers removed...

    Help! 1970 side vent grilles

The grills are die cast and the edges were chromed. With age, the chrome will corrode and it's common for the edges to be sanded and the whole grill painted. If the the entire grill is painted, then the underlaying chrome is probably gone. Removing the paint may not revel what you hope to see...

AC / blower motor cover on a 73

Well, that's an atomic size face palm. Sorry, but I had '72 on the brain, since I recently changed out my heater core. You did state '73. Sorry about that year mix-up. You should still be able to access the lower bolt from underneath the car. Red faced Bob

AC / blower motor cover on a 73

Some of this you may already know. To replace the heater core, you need to remove the passenger side dash panel which will give you access to the inside A/C/heater box. The fasteners are all on the perimeter of the box. I believe there is one stud at the top of the box that goes thru the...

    Oil sending unit wire

To be honest, I thought that '74 Corvettes still had a mechanical oil gauge. I would guess that the black wire would be a ground. I would need to find a '74 wiring diagram to see. Let me do some checking and see if I can find you a better answer to your question. Bob

AC / blower motor cover on a 73

May I ask what it is we are trying to accomplish? Replacing the fan motor, replacing the heater core, ? Inquiring minds and all that good stuff :D

    Oil sending unit wire

Corvette's of this era never had a "dumby" light. :)

AC / blower motor cover on a 73

There are mounting screws that need to be removed from both the engine compartment and passenger compartment sides. Removing the side grill in the fender will give you access to the engine compartment side of the A/C box. Removing the passenger side dash takes care of the interior side.

    '72 gas cap vented?

Nope, it's a sealed system. There are rubber hoses that connect the charcoal cannister, the vapor valve and such to the gas tank and the carburator. Perhaps one of those has deteriorated. Another possibility could be a rust hole in the fuel filler neck. One would need to pull the rubber boot on...

    Volt gauge reading issues?

A volt meter reads the charge condition of your battery. Unless you have a heavy power drain or charging situation, the needle on you volt meter will probable run in the middle of the dial with a fully charged battery. With the charge light coming on, it sounds like the alternator isn't charging...

    Carb rebuild kit.

The best kit would be a AC Delco but they probably haven't been available for years. Napa would be my second choice. I would also suggest that you get a new carb float to go along with the kit, as they are a minor priced item. The floats have a habit of soaking up gas which makes them not float...

Question: Replacing broken Windshield in 75 vette.

The windshield is glued to the windshield frame with a urethane gasket material. To remove the existing windshield will require that the seal between the frame and glass be cut, either with a razor blade tool or wire. There is no separate gasket. Any glass shop that can get the windshield should...
