    Tech Article: Run Flat Facts

Rob, An excellent article. One area that was not explored in the article was trying to find an "authorized Goodyear Runflat dealer" while outside of a major city (especially one that is open in the evening or on weekends). I recently replaced the original Goodyear runflats on my C5 with...

    Gas Gauge Problems

atmmac, This is a very, very common problem with C5's. My C5 has been repaired by Mr. Goodwrench twice for the problem (once under the new car warranty and then under the GMPP that cost me a $100.00 deductible). Check the Tech Center above (knowledgebase). There are numerous TSB's that...

HVAC Starts By ITSELF!!!! It's Posessed???

prostuff, Go to the Tech Center above, then the Knowledgebase, then the 1997 - 2004 Corvette section, then the A/C sub-section. You will see a TSB that applies to 1997 C5's with the problem you describe. It also has the "fix". Good luck.

    cheap quality seat covers

The leather seat covers on the EXTRA COST sport seats on my 1999 C5 coupe began to wear prematurely and were replaced under the new car warranty at 17,000 miles. Now, at 34,000 miles, they are showing signs of excessive wear again. Cheap - cheap - cheap quality! (Especially for an extra cost...

    New Michelins on the 03

NC50anny, Are the new tires much quieter than the Goodyear EMT tires? I can not stand the road noise with the Goodyears and would never purchase another new Corvette with the Goodyear EMT's.

    "hooking up a bra"

Ron, I used stainless snaps, #8 x 5/8", purchased at a marine supply shop. The specific brand was "Seafit" and their part number was 243030. These snaps work very well. I also put a little silicone dielectric grease on the snap head to make it easier to attach and remove the bra snaps. Good...

Loose Driver and Passenger Power Seat

Jackred, Check the Tech Center tab above (then the knowledgebase, 1997 - 2004 Corvettes, then interior parts and trim). There was a TSB issue that pertains to your problem. The seat adjustors can be replaced under the new car warranty or the GMPP (subject to the deductible). Good luck - this...

    Common 2001 C5 problems?

jchen, Check the knowledgebase area in the "Tech Tab" above. You will be amazed at the number of TSB's issued by Chevrolet for the various year C5's. There are a lot of common problems that took Chevrolet many model years to correct. Good luck.

Why is there foam insulation around my battery?

Dave1998, Chevrolet issued TSB #99-06-03-002 "Battery Insulator Replacement" for 1999 and prior passenger cars and light trucks that cautioned dealers to replace the battery insulator if it is damaged or missing, and not to omitt installing it when replacing the battery. If the insulator is...

[Press] GM Will Recall Some Chevrolet Corvettes

Rob, The "satisfaction campaign" and now the official "recall" for automatic transmission equipped C5's eliminate the locking steering column feature. This is a theft deterent feature and also a feature that the original C5 purchaser paid for. Chevrolet should reimburse the C5 owners that...

Does your C5 LS1 use any oil between oil changes?

bluecoupe, My 99 C5 coupe with the A4 and 33,000 miles (purchased new) does not use oil. I do not drive the car hard.

    Weatherstrip lubricant

c4c5, I checked with my dealer parts department and was told the part number you posted comes in a 50 gram container and was very expensive ($39.00 list price). Is this correct? What is the product? Thanks.

    '97 Electrical Problem

Jim Shoemaker, Good luck on your repair - don't feel so bad. I waited until the third year of production so I could buy a C5 "with all the bugs worked out". It didn't work - my car has had nothing but a lot of defects. Most of them are ones that seem to be very common and problems that...

    '97 Electrical Problem

Jim Shoemaker, Review the TSB here: http://corvetteactioncenter.com/kb/question.php?qstId=200 It sounds like a HVAC defect has caused your battery to run down. Good luck. (My 1999 Artic White C5 coupe has the Firethorn Red interior too. You don't see many of them.)

    New Weight Loss Method!!

Grumpy, If you put silicone di-electric grease on the inside of the wire boot, it will come off easier the next time. I used a Snap-On double swivel spark plug socket to remove the #7 sparkplug. You're right - the wire was the hardest to remove.

Encouragement to Dave Hill and His Staff

Rob, Please post my experience: My special ordered 1999 C5 coupe's build and delivery was delayed by the UAW work stoppage. This was my third Corvette and I have also owned other Chevrolet "muscle cars". During the C5's first 20,094 carefully driven miles, 18 separate defects surfaced...

    Bowling Green loooong tour closure!!

Hib, With Chevrolet's track record on the previous model changes, I am not sure that the C6 will begin shipping in mid to late summer 2004. Remember the 1968 "shark" model was planned as a 1967. Remember the 1983 model was pushed back as a 1984. Remember the 1997 C5 - its shipments were...

Why would you not buy a C6 next year?

Southpaw, My 1999 C5 coupe, purchased new, suffered 18 separate defects in the first 20,094 carefully driven miles. It broke down three separate times while I was out-of-state, on vacation (column lock, a/c drain clog - ruined computer, and defective alternator). It was recalled for a safety...
