    humming noise

Your car is making a humming noise while you are sitting in it? Was the engine running? If the car was just started, an electric AIR (air injector reactor) pump starts and makes a humming noise for a little while until it shuts off. It is mounted in the left front of the engine compartment...

    Question: Column lock problem

1999 C5 coupe with A4 - purchased new. Never damaged or wrecked. Column lock malfunctioned while car parked in the summer under the hot sun, while out-of-state on vacation. Car would start, but stall when transmission lever placed in drive or reverse. Steering wheel would not unlock...

    Muffler tips

The tips are tack-welded on. They do not come off. Use a good quality stainless steel or chrome polish (and some elbow grease....). Good luck.

    Winter weather problem

I have also used the dielectric grease. The GM synthetic lube is not as "wet" or "greasy" as the dielectric grease. I hope this helps.

    Winter weather problem

Use GM's "Synthetic Lubricant with Teflon" - applied to the weatherstrip with a small terry cloth towel. You can wipe it on, then wipe off the excess with a small towel. It is a thick gel. The part number is 12371287 - it is packaged in a 3 oz. (85g) tube and is very easy to apply. Good luck.

    Replacing Drivers seat leather/foam

I recently replaced the driver sport seat seatback leather cover and foam on a friend's 1999 Corvette coupe - it was very, very easy. Here is a web site link that has step-by-step instructions with pictures...

Competion mode on a 1999, Optional?

Active Handling was a $500.00 option in the 1999 C5 model year - and to enter competition mode, you must have the option. It was not just a computer reflash, but additional controlers, sensors, ABS servo, computer, etc.

    Windshield Wipers - Strange Problem

There are actually three udders on the driver's side. You can reach under the cowl, between the windshield washer fluid resovoir and the cowl. Two are near the front of the cowl - the third one is behind the other two. The third one can be reached - it is just a tight fit. The one on the...

    Windshield Wipers - Strange Problem

I suspect the rubber drain udders under the cowl are clogged and backed-up with water (probably when you washed the car). If the cowl does not drain quickly, it can damage an electronic control module attached to the C5 wiper motor. Are you aware of how to clear / clean the rubber udders?

    Information on changing rear fluid

The Chevrolet mechanic that added the fluid said it applied to "all C5's". I was on vacation and out-of-state. The dealer was very honest and put my car ahead of others since I was traveling. I was afraid I needed a new differential. I have since put about another 1,500 miles on the car...

    Information on changing rear fluid

I did mine last Fall (1999 C5 coupe). I removed the drain plug (10 mm square drive for a 3/8 ratchet) and let the fluid drain overnight. The drain plug is underneath the differential carrier, so all of the fluid will drain. Then I added the GM fluid including the 4 oz. of modifier and drove...

    Lube Question

GM part number 12371287 - "Synthetic Lubricant with Teflon". It comes in a 3 oz. (85g) tube. It works very well - and can be used on the rubber weatherstrip also. Good luck.

    C5 oil change special procedure??

You should also wait 5-10 minutes after pouring the new oil in before you start the engine - this delay allows the oil to fully reach the pan due to the baffles in it. I also pre-fill the oil filter before installing it. Good luck.

    Lost Locking Lug Nut Key

I do not know if the Z06 has the rear, (small) moulded recess for the locking lug-nut key (socket). Mine is a coupe and has it. It is under one of the rear compartment covers - so the Z06 may not have it since the covers were not included? You may want to read your owner's manual to see if...

    Lost Locking Lug Nut Key

A long-shot: Did you check the small, moulded depression in the rear of the storage compartment carpet for the locking key? Some C5 owners do not realize the small depression is there for the storage of the locking key. Some dealers have a set of keys to the locking lug nuts. Call around...

    Window Valet

I purchased and installed one on my 1999 C5 coupe several years ago. I have NEVER had a problem with it and really like the item.

    New spark plugs?

Thanks - is there any way to determine if my car needs any updates, without going through the update process (such as by VIN?).
