    CLB

I agree with your first sentence 110% (and the rest of your post). GM's answer to a defective / failure prone component is to disconnect it! A locking steering column is a safety and anti-theft feature that the original owner paid for (and was featured in GM literature). Imagine if another...

    New Buzz/Hum under dash

At cold vehicle start, there is an electric air pump that turns on for about 1/2 - 1 minute, which is part of the emissions control system. The pump is located in the left front of the engine compartment. This is probably what you hear. I hope this helps - good luck.

    What to do about Insurance?

I agree with the need for insurance - and plenty of it. I have always maintained high levels of vehicle, home, and umbrella coverage. The industry employees often discourages their customers from making a claim, implying that it "will cost you". The industry has influenced members of the...

    What to do about Insurance?

I agree about the umbrella policy. Vehicle and home insurance is the ONLY product where the industry repeatedly discourages you from using it and if you do use what you've paid for, you are threatened with price increases and/or cancellation.

    Time for tires

When I replaced the original Goodyear EMT tires on my C5 (purchased new) I bought the Goodyears - only because they are rated to be driven up to 200 miles with no pressure. The Michelin Pilot Sport A/S ZP tires are only rated for 50 miles. I often drive in rural areas and did NOT want to get...

    Interior condensation

Is the right footwell of the car wet? Remove your floor mat and the computer cover. Is any of the carpeting or padding wet? If so, post what you find and I can advise you on how to clear a clogged a/c condensate drain tube to prevent further damage (I speak from experience - mine overflowed...

    a/c problem

You need to replace the outside air temperature sensor (about $15.00 at the dealer). It is located under the front of the car, on the passenger side - attached to the radiator shroud. Clean the connector cavity well and use silicone dielectric grease in the cavity to prevent future corrosion...

    Best Year for C5

Check the number of TSB's for the C5 - especially the early years - http://corvetteactioncenter.com/kb/category.php?catId=6 . You won't believe how many common defects there are. Good luck.

Side Mirrors Pushed Forward and broke

Contact Ed Swaneck at (330) 727-3188. If you remove and send your mirror(s) to him, he will repair them for a cost of $70.00 each, which includes return shipping via UPS (with a one-day turnaround). This information was contained in the September 2006 issue of Corvette Fever Magazine. Good luck.

    Air cleaner box

When I purchased my 1999 C5 coupe new (built 8/98), the air filter box lid clamps kept opening while the car was being driven. The dealer replaced the straps under the new car warranty (the metal straps are serviced separately). The mechanic said he had seen a bunch of straps that kept opening...
