Here goes:
04086 -- Rear Brake Lining Routing
2005 Chevrolet Corvette
Condition
General Motors has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 2004 and 2005 model year Cadillac XLR vehicles, and 2005 model year Chevrolet Corvette vehicles. The rear brake...
cazorp,
One additional thing to check. My 1999 C5 coupe also leaked acid from the original Delco battery. It caused considerable damage to items below the battery tray (vacuum lines, wiring harnesses, and a computer (The powertraiin control module - PCM).
The acid damage is virtually...
cazorp,
The BCM was replaced on my 1999 C5 coupe while under the new car warranty. The a/c evaporator drain clogged and caused water to overflow under the dash and enter the BCM compartment. The water followed the wiring and entered the computer, ruining it.
Before the car shut down and...
I am not convinced the quality and reliability of the C6 has improved over the C5.
My 1999 C5 coupe (my third Corvette) has experienced 20 separate defects during the first 33,000 miles, including three separate breakdowns (while under the new car warranty) and two safety recalls. Many of the...
Chevrolet has issued another (revised) recall #04006B for certain 1997 - 2004 Corvettes.
The recall has been revised (again) to include 1997 C5 manuals and export automatics, and 1998 manuals and export automatics built through 5-25-98.
The recall for automatic transmission C5's will involve...
Andy Hunter,
After I ordered my 1999 C5 in June 1998, I sold my previous Corvette after the production date was set for the C5.
Then, the UAW workers staged a work stoppage at the Bowling Green Plant and my car's production and delivery was delayed for more than a month. The dealer and...
The launch of any new model must be very difficult. But, based upon my experience with previous "new" models, I do not believe the first model year of a new vehicle is a good buy.
I waited until the third model year of the C5 to order and purchase one. The car still had a lot of problems...
04 TorchRed,
Sorry to hear about your recall. It is a shame that Chevrolet can't build a car in its eighth model year without a significant quality/reliability problem like this.
My 1999 C5 had all kinds of problems - now at 35,000 miles, I wonder what else will go wrong.
Good luck.
Cruzer82,
Raise the RF of the car (use a jack stand). You can lay under the car and see the a/c condensate drain protruding from a plastic nipple on the firewall, at the rear of the right engine head.
Use a small "tack puller" type screwdriver and remove the rubber 90 degree elbow that is...
cruzer82,
Hope this helps:
The a/c drain condensate drain clogged on my 1999 C5 coupe, causing water to backup into the passenger footwell and enter the computer compartment. Water followed the computer wiring and entered it, ruining it and immobilizing the car. I was out-of-state on...
Pac-man,
I often drive my C5 on long weekend trips in very rural areas of Kentucky, Indiana, and West Virginia. I DO NOT want to be stranded with a flat tire that can only be driven 50 miles or less because of where I drive. That is the reason I replaced the original EMT's with new ones from...
