    1.5 or 1.6 rockers?

Yep ... I've switched to RotellaT 15-40 and DelVac1300 15-40 ... both readily available at decent price. In addition to the 71 ... I've just begun trying it in a "modern" V8 gas FI car w/ lotsa sensors ... so far so good ... so far no fouled O2 sensors ... fingers crossed ... 71 OK but the new...

    1.5 or 1.6 rockers?

Art: With 1.6 ... valve lift will increase to about .493"I/.500"E ... duration will increase about 2 degrees to about 220*I/226*E ... lobe separation remains about 110* ... roughly thirty thousandth's more lift & two more degrees ... not so much. Pretty sure OE RPM setup can handle more than...

Motor Blown! Rebuild or Crate It?

As said ... don't lose track of its original matching motor ... I know of at least one fellow who'd choose to repair & rebuild its OE motor. G'Luck! JACK:gap

    Newbe question

Welcome aboard CAC! First, verify ... verify exactly what you & your '80 can get away with (emissions) in your locale. More often than not, tinkering around the edges don't do too much but introduce headaches. Suggest you come up with a unified plan with a budget. Maybe you might develop that...

Cam button - to use or not?

True for virtually all flat-tappet motors ... hydraulic or solid, most have the angled ramps. Even so, flat-tappet in all-out race motor wants to walk & needs a button. But ... certainly not needed for street hydraulic flat-tappet energizer ... forget the button. You can still use the lock plate...

Performer RPM intake and CAM question?

I strongly agree w/ JohnZ on this ... 100%! BTW ... suggested that cam profile, primarily, for its streetability with the 350 combo I described ... that rather common profile is a mild street-strip cam ... however, it will have some lope in same combo ... lope not pronounced, but noticeable...

Performer RPM intake and CAM question?

Performer & RPM heads are same ...EXCEPT ... the RPM has NO exhaust Xover ... NO Xover is a good thing for most. For most folks: Performer cam is too small ... RPM cam too big. Plain performer intake (not RPM) will work just fine with RPM heads and a good cam ... it'll work well with your Qjet...

Motor Blown! Rebuild or Crate It?

First, VERIFY that it is the original L48 motor ... matched to your car. If not, you have all options. If true match: More often than not, when sleeving a block, machinist decks block to level top of sleeve with deck ... in doing so ... more often than not ... he removes the serial & vin ID...

again: C3 in flick you may not've seen

Last month I saw this film on Sundance Channel ... "Play It As It Lays" ca. 1972 starring Tuesday Weld & Anthony Perkins. Approx 1971 Yellow C3 coupe appears in this movie ... one I had not heard of before. Car appears in many scenes; driven by (vette-owner in film) Weld. Movie ain't bad ...

    Vibration found..Pilot bushing!

longest bronze pilot has most contact area w/crank Bill: Seems pilot bushing was installed properly. Bronze sbc pilot bushings are available both short & long; we use the long ones ... long has more OD surface area contact within crank's ID pilot counterbore. Long fills depth of crank's...

    Water pump

I respectfully disagree ... NO vette came with a "long" pump ... the later C3 came with a longer pump ... it's made like a short pump but it's a "vette" (also used on some trucks) pump with hub spaced ~3/16" forward of typical short pump. Vettes w/ centerbolt vc motors began with C4 ... they...

Motor Blown! Rebuild or Crate It?

John/vettej1: 72 with stock 350 ... can't say for sure but your avatar pic looks like maybe an LT1 hood. If car's a real LT1 with original LT1 350 ... if so and that motor is repairable ... you'd be doing yourself & your car a disservice if you change motors ... likely to be regretful if you...

    OK, I made a mistake...gear drive....

It's all in the chain itself. Energizer 274 is rather small cam & uses rather light springs so does not need a whole lotta chain. E274 is no more cam than a stock L82 ... any decent chain/set would be fine for that application. It's "True" that higher-priced Cloyes "True" roller chain actually...

    Water pump

Pump pictured above is NOT a long pump. It may be either a vette pump or a plain manilla short pump ... they're nearly same ... but they're not same. If the motor & pumps & pulleys are original for a 71 & up vette ... and ALL belts & pulleys line up straight ... then it's a near certainty it's a...

    Oil Pump

Correct fitting one-piece oil pan gasket for 1974 and older is felpro P/N OS34509T ... correct fit for a 71 sbc with 71 oil pan. FYI ... 75-85 have a different pan & use a different gasket ... also, most aftermarket pans are configured for 75-85 ... correct fitting one-piece oil pan gasket for...

Can't change my head lights!!. Question?

I had similar prob ... tried everything. Ended up doing similar to howard ... taped off area ... ground heads completely off bucket screws w/ die grinder ... removed buckets, bezels & bulbs ... then more penetrating oil (PB Blaster) ... then used small visegrips & turned the old screws out ...

    Carb formula, anyone?

The spreadbore edelbrock qjet is a great carb ... a clone of the spreadbore rochester qjet. Unfortunately, edelbrock ceased qjet clone production a year or two back. Perhaps there are some qjet clones left in the pipeline? AFAIK, the only eb carbs produced now are squarebore clones of Carter...

    C3 on film

This morning ...on Sundance Channel ... approx 1971 Yellow C3 coupe in a movie I had not heard of before. "Play It As It Lays" ca. 1972 with Tuesday Weld & Anthony Perkins. Car appears in many scenes; driven by (movie-owner) a very attractive Weld. JACK:gap
