You need to just keep working with it, do not modify it. Yes it can be a real bear to get back in place. If I remember last one I did took 3 of us and we got the rear over the housing first than worked it forward pushing with a 2x4 from the rear.
If you take the two small torx screws out of the rocker panel just under the 3 larger ones to the side panel it will allow a bit of flex to the rocker to get at the lower 10mm you can not see.
