    bad fan clutch?

There was a company that used to advertize in Hemmings that rebuilt fan clutches. I havn't bought a Hemmings for quite a while so don't know if they are still around. I did a Google search and they don't come up but some of the old shops still don't use the web.

    Help! steering box 1980

Me thinks you had a younger mechanic that is used to rack & pinion. With 32K actual miles it MAY be due for its first adjustment unless it has been run dry since new OR Mickey & Goofy worked on it back in history.

    Rough idle after start

Need to know what carb and if stock or electric choke. Sounds like the choke is opening way to fast.

Anouther Snag Pulling the motor out

MUCH easier to let the transmission stay in the car! Don't even need to take the hood off.

    bad fan clutch?

Fan clutch has zero play in any direction. On the front there is a spring (some are flat coil and the other is a flat spring) any oil on the outside is a sign the clutch is on its way out. It's a silicone based oil in a very small amount so any leakage will make it operate poorly.

Update on the new C4 frame braces

Basic C4 design never included the removable top but GM upper management insisted the car had to have it so now we have cowl shake w/roof off.

Question: Ignition timing on a '75

Niether did I try to disrepect him or his car. I just infered form his comments that money is a bit tight at this time. Dyno charges are at the whim of the operator. The money from a few dyno pulls adds up fast and could be better spent on parts.

Question: Ignition timing on a '75

Qjet isn't the best carb to rebuild as a first timer. It isn't that you can't do it as everyone has to start on their first one but have someone who knows Qjets standing over your sholder. If there is any play in the front throttle shaft (part with the butterfly valves that opens when you push...

Need information on how to remove doors on 63

Was the wooden suspension an extra cost option? ;)

    Heads and Cam

Call Comp Cams and tell them what you are looking for. They'll need the engine specs, emmission requirements, trans type and axle ratio but they are very helpfull and have helped us on a couple cars. It's free and if you like what you hear you can order direct.

Need information on how to remove doors on 63

Book shows six (6) bolts through hinge and into door, watch for the shim pack between hinge and door. The six bolts are accessed through the door. Hinge to body shows three (3) bolts. Two can be seen easily in the door frame and one is hidden on the inside of the car at a 90 degree angle from...

    Help! 1987 Corvette wheel bearings??

They are a zero tollerance bearing too. No play in any direction.

    Clutch Slave?

Never counted how many times but have spent quite a while trying to bleed it. If you know anyone with a vacuum bleeder it might help.

    Help! Seat removal problem

Start at the begining. Is there power going to the seat's motors? Does the seat still go up & down? If up & down still work, can you get your hand back the 4 seat bolts (ones that hold the seat to the frame 13mm heads) and remove the seat with the track still bolted down (you'll need a flat...

    Question: Rear rotor cracks

It's called heat checking and is normal in HD truck brake drums but not in cars that live "gentile" lives. The brakes have been hot numerous times either by a previous owner or you brake agressivly and don't realize it. A friend of mine's wife gets one year from a set of rotors on her daily car...

    82 rear brakes

Bench bleeding will not show a master cylinder that is "blowing by" internaly as it must be under pressure. Hoses may also be going out espically if you don't know how old they are. Simple way to see how old they are is rub your hand across them, if they leave a black sooty like stuff on your...

A lot is riding on Volt launch for GM!

I just don't see electric cars as the best future vehicle unless there is some major breakthrough in batteries or quick charging. Hydrogen, yes. Alky, not unless some other source than grain becomes available since the 6,800,000,000 people on this over populated planet would like to eat more...

Help! Newbie-- A/C 134 back to R-12 help needed

If your system isn't cooling well the 134a hasn't been set up porperly. The math conversion for 12 to 134 is a basic and then the system needs fine tuned one ounce at a time. If you want to do this because 12 is the "correct" refrigerant, you need to have a known supply of name brand, old R12...

    Does it really matter?

Tom, dealers get whatever the market will bare (bear? nude or animal?) and markets vary wildly around the country right now. I have a friend that buys all his Vettes from the dealer in Ft. Stockton, Texas. In all their years they had never sold a Vette until Tony bought one and now he buys only...
