Thanks geek, I get soooo tired of explaining Duracool to people some times I just give up. Duracool's flash point is about 300F higher than 134a (check the MSDs) but Duracool is listed as Flamable and 134a isn't. I'm not even gonna guess why. Duracool is slightly more efficent than R12 and about...
Look for oil/dirt traces at all joints and around the compressor as Orings dry out and crack. The soapy water spray work on leaks large enough to leak down fairly quickly. GM low pressure switches also have a bad habit of going bad. Our 93 had a bolt stuck between the radiator and condenser from...
I use synthetic in any new or freshly rebuilt engine. Putting synthetic in an older engine with old gaskets WILL find leaks and seeps you don't have now as synth can find it's way out of the smallest places. I wouldn't switch until the engine is rebuilt. Stay with what has gotten the engine to 200K.
When you say the compressor turns, do you mean it comes on like it should (center section turning)? Does it cycle rapidly? If it does it could be low on charge and it's time to convert to 134a or one of the R12 drop in replacements such as Duracool R12a or Freeze12. If your system still has the...
Custom Autosound Custom Autosound Radios and Speakers for Classic Cars and Streetrods won't need to cut dash, will drive all the toys, Ipod, XM, cd player, etc. Priced 'bout the same as mid priced aftermarket.
LT1s water pump seeping around 60-70K and failure to replace will take out the OptiSpark.
LT1s coolant seep at R/H or L/H rear of intake manifold around 70-80K.
LT1s coolant leak at rear of head gasket 100K.
C4s wheel bearings developing play (zero tollerance part). I've seen them fail at 30K...
I can't answer what other companies use but in years past (befor we became a dealer) the hoses we bought & used looked just like BQ's. The inner lining has been around for quite a while on bikes but with a plastic cover rather than SS.
Is the insulation still up in the tunel? It's a formed piece of foam with foil on it and a front seal. If it's missing the only way to replace is drop the trany.
C4s are going to bottom out just like C3s (and C1s and C2s if Ya happen to be that old). C3s are on a mild recovery right now and prices are inching up. What was a 3-5K C3 is now a 5-8K car. We have a 73 & a 77 in the shop right now with another 77 coming in next month. Owners are late 40s to...
My best guess is the other owner had a back-feed problem and the engine wouldn't shut off with the key or the alternator's field stayed energized after turning off the key and kept draining the battery. While the Ford style solenoid would work for a while, they are rated for starting only (short...
Just did a 73 and now working on a 77. Check all the controll arm bushings, idler arm, ball joints and tie rod ends for play. If those are tight (but I'll bet they are worn out) check the trailing arm bushings. Bad trailing arm bushings will make the car "rear steer" and no amount of aligning...
I vote for the fan clutch too. One of the most overlooked items on most cars. The giveaway is cooling above 40 mph OK. Either you have a collection of trash in front or the clutch is going out. Look (or feel at best) on the front of the clutch where the spring is ANY oil and dirt in the spring...
Guess the shop got the large, expensive press and all it's related parts for free. Why would they want to charge for that. Also try holding the 4' driveshaft straight out by yourself to set up the push punch and recieving tube or press plate.
The light sensor on top the dash lets the display know if it's dark or light outside and adjusts the display acordingly. Is it covered by a dash pad or "stuff"?
This is a project that just isn't worth the effort. Take a close look at the C4 seats VS the C5s. C4s have a much higher quality seat. No offense to C5 owners but GM really cut corners with the seats.
Nope, an Optima guy hangs out here too and already answered the same question for me. "Not enough interest" for a drop in replacement. GM still sells the correct drop in and all the ones I have bought have lasted 5 or more years with the use of a Battery Tender.
