My 81 seems to take a long time for the engine to warm up and come off of fast idle. It usually takes 15 minutes for the car to settle down after starting it up in the morning (garaged). During that time, the engine is idling at about 2k rpm.
Is 15 minutes to warm up normal?
I agree with what the previous posters have said. Putting a blower on an L81 is a horrible idea. These motors were not built with big power in mind. Modding the original L81 is not worth the time or money. Buy a GM performance crate motor and a built transmission, then bag up the originals and...
It seems to me that the extra $250 is worth the money just to get the right year. Most of the money will be in prep and paint anyhow. Do it right, do it once, save money.
I saw that post as well. It seems like the better route all the way around. I was more curios that anything about whether anyone has successfully converted a C3 to HID projector lights.
I'd consider a big block if it was aluminum, because it would probably weigh about the same as the stock small block does. Only problem is that I don't see many aluminum big blocks on the market.
I found a HID conversion kit from ASA that looks like it might work in a C3.

The bulbs are the correct 5.75" diameter, but they extend pretty far in.
The kit is pricey, but bolt in HIDs would be a huge improvement over our stock lights. Has anyone tried this?
If the signal goes through fiberglass, then couldn't you mount the magnetic antenna on top of the gas tank? Then you could route everything out of sight. You'd need some extensions, but they aren't that expensive.
Let me know how it works out- I have Sirius in one of my other cars and I love it.
See- that's what pushes me towards going full-tilt and putting in the LS3. I don't want to spend all this money and then think "I should have just gone up to the next level for a few thousand more". It's cheaper in the long run to just buy what I want the first time and be done with it. My line...
They are missing the story of the century. This car was hit by a lightning bolt in 1983 while traveling at 88MPH, which transported it to the year 2009. That pole was put in around 1991, thus the crash. While writing the ticket, the nice officer explained Van Hagar to the confused driver.

Mine is more or less a permanent part of the household. I've had the car for 11 years, which is the longest I've ever owned a vehicle. I can't see ever parting with it. But, it is very disheartening to have this beautiful car that looks like it is going 100 MPH standing still- and yet know that...
You're probably right about it being more than $1500 more for the LS3 than the ZZ383. I hadn't considered reusing the pulleys from my 350 on the 383. My stock computer controlled carb probably would not work, but maybe it would. Dollar per horsepower, the ZZ4 is hands-down the best option. I...
I completely disagree with the premise of mid-level luxury marques. I think having Buick says: "Chevrolets aren't that great" and I think Mercury says the same thing about Fords. I know Buick is the first GM and all the history, but still... there is no current Buick that cannot be a Chevrolet...
Another tip for stripping the clear coat: use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser + Acetone. I was working my fingers to the bone trying to get the old clear coat off. I asked my wife to go to the store to get me more scrubby pads and she brought home a box of the magic erasers instead. It was absolutely...
Very nice. How big is the drop on that air cleaner? Also, what is the advantage of the 383 over doing a LS3 swap? Crate engine depot has the zz383 listed at $5,228 and the LS3 for $6,134. After purchasing the intake and carb for the 383, I'm looking at the same amount of money. Perhaps I'll end...
