    I got to agree with some of the guys. Change the exhaust forst and see what that gets you. For any other performance mods you will need upgraded exhaust anyway, so do it first. If you don't have to deal with Smog peel off the air pump and maybe the egr, I don't it really robs much power at all...

    The motor has 2 connections, 1 is up and 1 is down. Use the ohm meter to check from 1 terminal to ground and then the other to ground

    Carver, changing the carb for annother of the same type is no more or less complicated than any other carb. If your wanting to swap it for something else, you would need to also replace the distributor for one with a vac advance unit on it and you would need to modify the TCC lockup circuit...

    OK, your going to need to look at the ignition switch. Its on top of the steering column, sounds like it may have some crud in it making it intermittent. I'll take a look at mine, give you a little more info

    Here is the power distribution drawing for the ignition switch See the Yellow wire? That runs the radio and the pulse wipers. Is the Radio fuse hot when the key is on and off when the key is on?
