Your friend could find a '84 - '89 with just over 100K, most everything working, interior and paint in good condition for that money. That guy's asking price is fishing for a sucker.

Hey John, My Vette just recently turned over 72K. I had the plugs and wires changed last summer. I also run a bottle of injector cleaner thru it every other month. You are probably due for a tune-up about now. ;)

Correct. Once it's gone, it's gone. Perhaps others can suggest good replacement. I've never bought cats and have no idea on quality or price.

Hmmm... well, if the noise is truly coming from the cats, perhaps the innards have just came loose. Raise the car and make sure it IS the cats making the noise. Maybe the heat shield is rattling.

How old are they? The internals are a material (ceramic?) that can crack. If that happens and the pieces shift, it can cut off flow, causing running problems and reliability issues. I would get it to a good muffler shop to have them check it and get their opinion. I'm sure they would know by...

Have you reached up under the nose to make sure there isn't any debris on the front of the radiator? The front of our C4's are like vacuum cleaners. All your numbers seem to be about 10 - 15 degrees higher than my '93 in those conditions. Verify the fans are working.

I agree with Tom, this car has many problems in it's future. Your friend will invest another $4k - $5k just to get the car looking like a $9K car and with that many miles, it's only worth around $7000 to $8000 if it looked great.

I just looked through my C4 Vette manual and it says that a fuel odor means the canister is probably clogged. Looks like you may need to replace it. :(

My question would be: Why would a 90 Vert with only 86K on the clock go for less than $8000??? Perhaps the Carfax thing has deterred other potential buyers. Or the bumper changes have lowered the value. Any other Illinois folks here close enough to give it a look for you? From what I've seen...

It seems like I read something about this recently. I can't remember the remedy though, sorry. My thoughts: If the lines are cracked, replace them. You might try to clean the canister with carb cleaner. (I believe it has activated charcoal in it, not sure if this will hurt it) Sorry, not much...

No, it doesn't need to be reset, just to recalibrate. It needs to realize that it can breathe better now. :D
