My personal philosophy: If money is a factor... do it as cheap as possible. If it doesn't fix it or fix it for long, you'll need to spend the money later anyway.
When I read your post I think you misunderstand something about A/C. The 'oil' you may be talking about... there IS oil in the...
It sounds like an aweful lot to fix for only having 86K on it. It was probably abused or not taken care of. If you think the repairs are within your realm of knowledge/abilty to fix and you thought it was mechanically sound, you might start by offering $6000. Remember, Vette parts, mostly...
I charged a system years ago, but don't remember how I did it. As you probably know... there's a high side and a low side, you have to fill on the low/vacuum side. Instructions on the kit??? Did you disconnect something to make it discharge or did it slow leak on you? You should find the...
The EGR could be bad and maybe that's why previous owner disconnected it. Being bad, it could be sticking partially open or sticking closed.
A PCV valve is just a check-ball. Clean it and reinstall it. You shouldn't need a new one unless it's cracked/broken or you can't get it to rattle when...
Yea, I guess the ECM is just looking for a number on that address line. Get a reading out its comfort zone and it causes trouble. If it's been failing for a while you wouldn't notice the drop in performance so much. Then getting it back in spec, you really notice an improvement. ;)
OH MAN... your A/C is out??? I guess you know how 67heaven felt on the way down to BG. ;LOL
Get that fixed soon, doesn't look like we are getting relief any time soon.
After reading Moonunit's post... made me think.
Hearing the 'crack' could have been a hose busting and blowing coolant on the exhaust manifold. Or... could be a freeze plug in the head 'popped' out. Before spending the $$$, try tracking down the leak yourself. At least you should have it...
Okay, but you will have to drive it some miles so the ECM can recalibrate. So you may not see any dramatic changes for a little while... if you see any at all.
Good luck Friday!! :upthumbs
First reconnect the EGR. Not saying that's your problem, but don't leave a possible fault open. It could be causing the real culprit or hiding it.
You could have a vacuum line that's disconnected somewhere. Slowly move your ear around the engine and listen for hissing.
I thought the...
