I did the swap back in June. www.700R4.com
The only modification was the shortened drive shaft $35.
It is a different car. It pins me in the seat when I floor it. Well worth the $1900 total cost
I bought a new GM Goodwrench engine. I then installed the summit K1103 cam. The engine should put out 250hp but it revs like a L-48, it drops off after 4000rpms. I was thinking of changing the heads and cam soon.
I had a erson cam installed in my L-48. It was one step above stock. The car had a noticable difference in power. The engine blew 6 mnths latr. The problem is an engine wears together. Over a certain amount of mileage its not good to change. I was doing a high speed run with the old T-400...
The one cool thing about owning a 1980 is its the last year before a computer. It seems like much less of a headache. I dont think ill ever switch over. With the 700R4 I went from 16 mpg to approx 21mpg (hwy). Thats good enuff for me.
I would think it took a second off. The tranny came with a 2200 stall converter. I drive my Vette on long trips mostly so the tranny is like an engine saver. I save 1000 rpms at 70 mph.
As for fuel or the tranny I would go with the tranny first. The way the 700R4 multiply's the engines torque...
I did the 700R4 swap a few months ago. The car is much faster from a dead stop. Fuel economy is better but only on the highway. If I cruise at 70mph im doing 2000rpms. Stock 3.08 rear.
I rebuilt my front suspension a few years back. If I could go back to when I did the rebuild I would have done it the way 69myway did his. I would also get the steeroids rack and pinion kit. Im kicking myself for not doing it that way. :hb
Interior. I bought mine from Auto Accessories of...
Water leak? In a Shark?
I tried it all, even bought the wind/water leak book. I installed new weatherstipping, It still leaks.
My best fix was keep it out of the rain. If you get caught in a storm hope for the best.
