Your problem is probably the plastic bushings in the motor. They turn to dust after a while. Replaced both of mine several years ago and had the same symptoms as yours. Do a search and you will probably find a hundred of threads on how to replace. $10 and a couple of hours (1.5 hours for the...
Found out yesterday that a fellow club member has the Z06 version on order. Selling his 07 Z06 and 09 vert to pay for it. Now if my wife would only let me raise our debt ceiling I'd consider buying his 09 vert. :thumb

Had the exact same problem with my 88 and they were the plastic bushings inside the motor. Do a search and you will probably find hundreds of thread on how to change them.
Good luck.

Randy,
Vets with Vettes was just getting started when I moved out of Huntsville. Bill Lange got that group started and is a great guy also. Mike Counts is in that club and he and I go way back. Mike Campe is in the Valley Vettes club and again a long time friend. Tell Zeke and Barbara "hi"...
Welcome to CAC! If you want to join a good club, check out Valley Vettes. I belonged when I lived in Huntsville and they are a great bunch of folks. Charlie Brown, one of the guys there when I was there, had a Z06 just like yours. Zeke Jenkins has the best Corvette shop around and I would...
I'll second Hib's recommendation on C-Magic. Our club went to the Museum a couple years ago and one of our members did the Experience. She had a red 99 couple just like you have. They used C-Magic and it looked absolutely fantastic when I saw it in the display area. That's what sold me. This...
To answer your question, the National Council of Corvette Clubs is having their annual convention in Tinley Park this year. Their car show is on Sunday, June 19. I believe it is at the Metra parking lot on the north side of the tracks. 173rd and Oak Park if I remember right. I don't have the...
Welcome and I hope you enjoy your C-4.
I grew up in Manteno, just to the north of you, on the family farm. Still have family in the area so I am up there frequently. In fact I'll be up there this weekend. We're going to the NCCC convention on Sunday.

Checking back through my notes I ordered SG430012 rather than SG430011. Guess the old eyes aren't want they use to be (and my memory!). :ugh That's probably why I had to drill out the holes. Looks like both are the same size, just the difference in the holes. Oh well, only took me a little...
Fixed
I got both struts from Lift Support Depot yesterday and put them on. Had the wife help with hood so I didn't have to rope it up. It took me about 5 minutes to replace the large strut.
Had a heck of a time putting on the smaller strut. I couldn't get the cotter pin on. Finally got...
Well after some delays I'm finally getting around to replacing my hood struts. Looked at it last night I have both the long strut with the safety catch on the driver's side and the short one on the passenger's side. Car is a late 88 model (May 31, 1988 build date). I'll be ordering both the...
Question for TedC
Where did you get your supports, ordered on-line or a local auto parts store? While my hatch is still pretty good, all the discussion on the hood supports reminded me of how hard my hood is to open. I think those supports need to be replaced so it looks like I added...
I'm with Elaine on using 303 Protectant. Best I've found.
While I don't use C- Magic for the interior like Tuna recommend, I've found C-Magic wax and detailer made my red 88 look the best it has ever been. I'm sure their interior spray works as well.

If you are looking for an alternative to Armor All, try 303 Protectant. You can get this at most marine or camping equipment places. I got this tip from Jane Ann here and it really work great with none of that oily sheen of Armor All.

I will try and answer your questions but I'm sure someone with more knowledge will chime in.
I've got an 88 and there was almost no change from an 88 to 89.
First, as for opening the rear hatch, I don't know about anything in the gas door area to open the hatch. I'd have to check my manual...
Welcome to the club! Great looking car!
If you are interested in joining a club, my club, the St. Louis Corvette Club, meets not too far from Fenton. We meet at the Sunset Lakes Golf and Banquet Center near Gravois Bluff. Check us out at www.stlcorvettes.com. Drop me a pm if you are...
