Without battery power, the door window will not 'index' down to clear the weather stripping. So, just pulling the release in the trunk my not pop the door open enough to clear the weather stripping without a little help. Then the second latch locks the door ajar.

Welcome to the CAC! Have you asked someone to help pull the door open while you pull the latch in the trunk?
