    Thermostat question

SRReality You might want to take the thermostat out to check the temperature that it "really" opens. I used to watch my Dad check the thermostat in his 36 Chevy every winter to make sure it was working properly. He checked it by putting it in water with a candy thermometer, heated the water...

Need Suggestions/Install tips For a new Fuel Pump

Macgyver If you have one of those pencil sized pick-up magnets, that will work well in the bolt hole in the front of the block to hold the pump pushrod. That's what I always use. Ol Blue

Tried it again and still not fixed!!

Barry I've tried to quickly read through this thread to see if it sounded like the problems that I experienced in my 65 recently out of storage since 1996. My car just wouldn't rev past 4500, then it got worse. My first thoughts were that the carb, (an old junk one that I put on instead of...

What makes a frame off so expensive?

IMSA Corvette Racer Thanks Tom It was my cousin's car and he raced it in the late 60's and 70's at Daytona, Sebring and Road America. I have pictures all thru the entire restoration, but just never got them on the web. I also have a couple of scrap books of it's racing history. but only one...

What makes a frame off so expensive?

About 4 years ago I did a body off on a 64 Corvette, with almost all work done by myself, my son and a good friend with a big garage and lots of tools. The total cost for frame, front and rear suspension and running gear was around $6,000. That included powder coating and using all new bolts...

    Trailing Arm Assemblies - '63 vs. '65

kbuhagiar The 63 trailing arms have a pad welded to the outside to be the bumper stop. Look at the outside of the frame rail behind and above the wheel. There will be a bumper outboard of the frame. On the 65, the bumper is under the frame, which means the pad on the trailing arm is in a...

    ZO6 Performance - 1/4 mile

I'm sure that the track and driver experience makes a big difference. My son has run his ZR-1 at the Bowling Green track quite a bit, and when he first took his 2001 Z06 out, he turned 12.2 and 114mph. That's close to his ZR-1 times. I don't know what his 60ft time was though. Ol Blue

lookin for paint tips here please....

Vettedude73 When you are taping off sections, you might consider rolling up the side of the tape just off the edge that you are spraying. That gives you a feather edge instead of the hard edge that pressed down tape will give. Ol Blue

    headers for factory side pipes

L88Crazy I have a set of Heddman headers that match up perfectly to the factory sidepipes on my 63. It seems like I've seen them listed in the Summit catalog. Ol Blue http://www.knology.net/~corvettes/63vett.jpg

    Knock Off Safety

The 65 and 66 KO's were the same EXCEPT for the center cone. The 65 is bright chrome look and the 66 has a brushed look finish. Ol Blue Original KO instructions say to strike the spinner with 8 hard blows and test again later. Works for me for years. http://www.knology.net/~corvettes/63vett.jpg

    FI Manifolds

Tyler My 63 FI base is rectangular port, but as I remember, the earlier ones are narrower and actually are sort of "A" shaped at the outer end. Ol Blue, (Father of Brian, USA WON)

    Headers

blasterfcd Heddman makes a header that feeds directly into the factory sidepipes. I think the primaries are around 30" long with a 3" diameter collector. Ol Blue

    Rear Tire wear?

Celeryman22 It sounds to me that you need some camber adjustment on the rear. You won't need shims tocorrect that. There are adjustments directly under the differential that will allow you to adjust camber. Take a look at Vette Brakes and I think they show you how to do a "close guess" at...

    Front End Repair Ideas

You should be able to purchase Moog or TRW from several of your local parts stores, but if not, http://www.summitracing.com has Moog parts. Page 203 in my catalog. Ol Blue

    Front End Repair Ideas

chockey Sometimes the kits you buy from places like you mentioned are made in other countrys. Maybe they were ok, but I bought Moog parts, made in the USA and with a good established reputation for quality. From what I understand, if you are not racing, the rubber bushings are the best...

    Goldline Tires?

L88Crazy I believe that the gold line tires were only available in 65 and 66. I've seen Firestone and Goodyear in goldlines. Recent reproductions have DOT numbers, but back in the 70's, Terry Michaelis (now of Pro-Team) began reproducing many Corvette parts, including goldline and redline...

    Windshield moulding clips

I borrowed a tool from a local body shop to take the upper windshield stainless molding off of my daughter's 72 LT-1 convert today. You can surely get them from Eastwood, or maybe a local NAPA. It looks like a "4" on the end that you hook on the clip and pull down to release the stainless...

Who make a 5-point Roll Bar for a C3 Convertible?

GrandSportC3 The 2001 SCCA rule book has this to say about Roll Bars. The main hoop (behind the driver) shall be the full width of the cockpit. (Ol Blue comment; this may be where the design to miss the convert top arms may render your roll bar unacceptable) The main hoop shall be as near...
