Most modern engines have t-stats that are even higher than 180. The LT1/LT4's actually run cooler than newer 2000+ engines. My old 2001 Ford Focus ran 200+ all the time. That was factory. My 2013 Nissan Sentra does the same. Just stick with the 180, nothing to be gained on a street car or even a...
Over this winter I swapped out my stock FX3 springs and sway bars for a set off a 236K 92 Z07 car. I know high mileage, but keep in mind GM wore out the testing equipment not the springs. No damage or delamination to the springs and mostly likely a lot of highway miles.
Anyhow, compared to the...
I've used the Dr. Color system twice on my 93 40th. No MIRACLE but best product I've used. NO BLOBS. Blends in very well. Took road rash from a 10ft to a 5ft. Not bad for a car that is driven and raced.
GM's latest and greatest is Dexos. Mobil 1 is Dexos approved so I would assume that it would be fine. I just got done replacing my 20 year old valve springs/valve seals in my 93 LT1. You can eat off the inside of this engine. Its that clean. Previous owners obviously at least changed the oil...
I should follow up with this. I wound up ordering the pins from Marc. H. They where actually too big for my housing. So I wound up using the stock pins. What I did was take RED lock tight and just put it on the stepped up portion of the pin that engages the upper housing only. This way it can...
I totally get your position. Fair is fair. However, most dealerships are not fair to the tech or the customer. They should NEVER charge additional labor time without approval. I agree if they are going to charge extra then they should charge less if it takes less time. This being only playing...
That is how flat rate techs make money. Doing the job under book time. The kicker is you get paid the same whether you do it fast or take 8 hours and only get paid 3 or 4. The potential to make money is there and the potential to lose money is there too.
I know all about that stuff, I work...
This is for a 93 Corvette.
Anyone know where I might find a upper column housing? You know the one that always gets worn out by the pivot pins. I did find one site with them, but at $600 for NOS units and $285 for reconditioned units that cannot 100% garenttee no movement...I'll pass.
gm...
Don't discount the "china" walls leaking at the front and rear of the lifter valley. If the intake has never been off and resealed with The Right Stuff (actual name of the Permatex product) I would start with that.
That is interesting. I've never read or heard about that if it IS factory. I doubt that it is. Its possible I supposed. Lots of undocumented stuff does occur from time to time.
The bolt has to be broken off in the caliper bracket. That is the only part that is threaded and has a larger bolt. You must have worse luck than me, I've taken literally hundreds if not thousands of those out with a problem. In a salt state with lots of junk on the roads.
Yeah, stuff can be...
Stock is plain black. On my car, I took some touch up paint and painted in the Corvette on the covers. I like the way they look.
Painting them totally would look good too. Personally, I try to NOT over do it in the engine compartment. It gets to much of a busy look, IMO.
Yeah, I figured on checking the pushrods. Thought of this after I had posted. No since in messing with stuff that is fine.
You what is funny, LT1 valve springs are about $10 each. However, you can buy a set of 16 LT4 springs for 40. WTH is up with that?
I understand the LT4 came with lighter...
For a stock cam LT1 application do you see any reason this kit would not be a good replacement/freshening? Given my use of my Corvette, just looking to keep things fresh, not planning any internal engine mods not even 1.6 roller rockers. I don't want to bump that many classes in the SCCA rule...
84-96 is the same chassis.
84-91 all used 1st Gen SBC. 1 piece rear main 87 and up. So any headers for a C4 Corvette from those years should fit.
The Corvette is a Y-Body. I highly doubt any other GM body code headers will fit.
The reason for the swap is increased handling capabilities. I've done over a full season of auto-x now with the stock FE1 springs/bars and the FX3 shock package. I'd gain a LOT in handing with the Z07 setup. Poly is way more durable than rubber, and you cannot find rubber unless its NOS control...
