Providing EVERYTHING in it and around it is operational 100%
Personally, I'd rather have the option to tune the engine myself IE fuel mixture-engine timing.
Considering deleting both the E4ME and the computer controlled dizy for non-computer quad carb and HEI.
Thanks for the above link and info...please understand, I didn't call that Florida carb rebuilder to confirm your prior information but, to see if they had any other tricks when performing the switchover work.
They just said sooooo many things had to be modified and blocked to make it...
Not uncommon for these things to run HOT especially during the summer...230 +- :mad
I set up a toggle switch just above my right leg so I could kick-on the electric fan before it normally would come on (234) it helps but > once the engine gets heat-soaked it'll take some open road to cool it...
Did some sniffing around on eBay, found a re-builder in Florida that ONLY deals with Quadrajet's > computer and non-computer carbs.
ROCHESTER QUADRAJET CARBURETOR CHEVY 305 350 M4MC 4 BBL - eBay (item 160509596939 end time Dec-21-10 15:42:08 PST)
$230.00 would get me a fully rebuilt, surfaced...
Again, thanks for the information...I know the Holley 4150 DP/vac-sec like the back of my hand however, never entered a Quadrajet. >so I'll have to see where these 'new' primary side 62/63 jets will sit.
Plans are to replace my dizzy with a regular GM vacuum advance HEI unit.
For the simple...
Thanks for the above feedback...not sure I'll unplug the computer as I'm not to sure what else it controls > any dash instrumentation?
I know the computer controls the trany torque converter lock-up on the highway but, I've been told that part of my trany stopped working a looooong time ago...
Been years and years of rough idle, pinging under load and poor fuel mileage and, it's NEVER been able to run on regular grade gas > > > and it should >WTF it's a low compression, low HP small block Chevy!
I swear at times I'd like to run this thing into a wall > but before I do, I'm going to...
"Chemically driven wear" as in etching to the bearings and possable hard surfaces > yes. However, I would only worry about this with 'TRUE RACING OILS' such as Pennzoil 25-50 dino. This reportedly has 2000 ppm of ZDDP and an oil that is ment to be raced then dumped. Such oils like Pennzoil's...
Well Glen, I was told the same thing > buy a very assuring, easy speaking fella with a slight southern draw.
However > the fact of the matter is, no way can 'any' API-SM rated street oil carry that much ZDDP >the SM rating insures it doesn't. So here's what you need to ask yourself > can...
No hand held vacuum pump yet, heading to purchase one tomorrow.
I did put a vacuum gauge at one of the actuator ports and then at the pull-down-switch > vacuum was the same but by no means was it a proper diagnostic test.
I printed out this > Vacuum Troubleshooting
At least I'll know what does...
I'm (right now) holding in my hand a bottle of Valvoline VR1 Racing Oil 20/50 dino oil>>> on the BACK of the bottle it's dated 2004 > I purchased two cases of it two months ago at my local Auto-Zone when all VR1 was 1/2 price.
The API rating on the back is SM
If I could post a picture I would >...
Valvoline VR1 Racing 20/50 and ALWAYS with a pint of STP.
The STP will raise the ZDDP levels back up to when the better levels were designed for flat tappet lifters and camshafts.
There has been a TON if internet controversy regarding the Valvoline "Racing" oil now supporting the current API SM...
I have an 81 and yes there is a set screw on the drivers side of the carb > however rough idling and be cause by a number of things. First on the list would be a vacuum leak somewhere in the system > I actually found one on my 81 way down at the transmission > the little rubber hose that...
DARN >>> looks like I'm in this mess too!
DARN >>> looks like I'm in this mess too!
I've replaced the front cone seal on my drivers side with a new one yet > the door is still lazy to lift.
The actuator can holds vacuum no problem.
It lifts some > starts to droop, then when the passenger...
Thanks again for the prompt reply...funny quick story > back in the mid 80's a friend suggested I put a 'cam' in my engine to "wake it up" so we did. The thing had more power but idled like CRAP because the computer was always trying to adjust for the cam but couldn't...of course we had no idea...
Much thanks for the feedback...but what's the trany mod (if) I too completely remove the computer?
Last thing I need is a trany that won't work :ohnoes
Darn...so are you saying for my 81 (auto) I wouldn't be able to remove the computer controlled Guadrajet and dizzy for a earlier non-computer controlled Quad and Dizzy and have a functional trany?
Pull the distributor cap and check the carbon button > I just had one burn up because there wasn't enough tension between the button and rotor's flat contact spring :mad
