    Got Bad News...

Sell this GM junk 'as-is' and buy a 25th anniversary Lamborghini Countach :thumb Ok, the above was a pipe dream... tomorrow, if everything goes to acording to plan...I'll install the posi unit back into the diff case. In will go the yokes and center-shaft and hopefully bolt the batwing/rear...

    Strut Arm Bushings (question)

I agree, nothing wrong with my OE struts but, I'm seeing prices for the replacement rubber-bushing between $12.00 each to $28.00 each > yet the pictures used are all the same. The bushings in those aftermarket struts looked bad > around the bushing, the rubber was not of even depth thus you...

    Strut Arm Bushings (question)

Observation & question... So, today I got to see an 'aftermarket strut rod' with rubber bushings installed. What I noticed, the current replacement rubber strut-bushings come with an outer metal collar making the rubber area thinner! My 'original' 1.3/8" bushings had a lot more/thicker rubber to...

    Got Bad News...

Well, today I again drove 90 miles (round trip) to pick-up what I'm told are my 'original yokes'...they appear to be but I can't be 100% positive. Anyhow, they look a lot better then the prior beaten to death pieces I returned and, the journal/seal area is free of pits & nicks > just like...

    Got Bad News...

Well, there should be more people like you, sadly there aren't. The retailer didn't offer and I didn't ask but, I did mention I'm out another 85 mile round trip with the added expense of it all (almost $100.00) + my time. I never should have left with the junk that was handed to me. No doubt...

    Got Bad News...

Well, just got the call...the second set of re-manufactured stub-shafts are in (supposedly my originals). Looks like I'll be burning another $45 in diesel fuel + tolls to go get them > on Friday. Keeping fingers crossed!

    Got Bad News...

Decided to install a Speedi-sleeve...better safe than sorry. Nappa gave a me a great price, they're winning more of my business :thumb

    Got Bad News...

Say what...my nut is aluminum > that puppy would split apart at that torque! See below pic, before taking it apart I indexed the nut, pinion shaft end, the yoke and the diff...all at 12:00 With a large pipe wrench on the yoke and a breaking bar on the nut I had to stand on it to break the nut...

    Got Bad News...

Well, the retailer sent 'my' stub axles to his re-manufacture (someone in Florida). I requested he initial my yokes so I would get the same two back...I can only hope he did this. Once again, it's a waiting game.

    Dumb oil shelf-life question

I've used 8 year old Brad Penn for my BBC Jet boat, no problems however...even with shaking the bottles like a crazy man I then cut them open and saw a slight graphite colored residue on the bottoms. That was the additive package that fell out of the oil. I simply put a little oil in the bottom...

    Got Bad News...

The one yoke was pounded out so hard not only is the face distorted but the underside is cracked. Upon closer inspection there is a nick where the oil seal would ride...this will be a leaker. I've reached out to the the retailer to see what my options are. Aside from my wore ends, my yokes were...

    Got Bad News...

Today I drove 80 miles round trip to pick up my stub axles and new center-pin as well as a few other items and also had my TA bushings pressed-in. Can't say I like the reconditioned stub axles...very disappointed in how they look. To add, while driving there my pick-up truck now has a busted...

    Diff Gasket Sealant 80-82 ?

Interesting yours didn't have a gasket yet mine did...your's may have been one of those Friday end of shift builds lol

    Diff Gasket Sealant 80-82 ?

Tim, thanks for you're feedback. For a "normal pumpkin and it's little hubcap rear cover" I fully get your reasoning. This 4-foot across so called "batwing" is the rear cover! I don't believe the front 'diff' section can be removed leaving the rear batwing cover bolted to the frame...unless...

    Diff Gasket Sealant 80-82 ?

Did a 'search' but didn't find anything. Just wondering, what's preferred for a 'sealant' between the aluminum/paper/aluminum diff cover for a 80-82 diff? NO synthetic gear oil will be used! I already have... Permatex HighTack Gasket Sealant (brush-on) I like this stuff, but for gear oil...

Replacing the expansion tank on 1981 Coupe

Seriously, the ONLY thing 'fun' about these cars is driving them. Other than that, I could easily punch GM engineers in their teeth.

    Rear Y-Pipe

Yep, during my diff removal I had to pull down the OE rear y-pipe. It was thin and had some small holes at the 'Y' junction. Hat's off to Auto Zone (the only store) for matching the best price I could find, from Summit Racing, and saving me a significant amount of $$$ Walker #40469 BTW, the...

    81 Pinion Seal Question

Waiting on the Stub Axles...should be in this Friday. BTW, the SKF seals for the Yokes I just purchased look real nice! :thumb But the 80-81 pinion seal's a redheaded stepchild lol

    Quadrajet E4ME Carburetor off 1981 - NICE!

Question, you had it rebuilt and then ran it only 20 miles, why sell? Heck, my rebuild kit cost me almost 1/2 of you're 'starting bid'.
