    Catalytic Converter-Off Road Pipe?

Hey folks, I remember a long time ago someone like Ecklers, Mid America etc offered an "off road pipe" that directly bolted in-place of the 1981 Catalytic Converter...it even had a bung on it for the air pipe tube. But I can't find them anymore...are they still being offered?

    Got Bad News...

I rechecked it several times, this time using a ridged flex mount clamped to the strut arms. drivers side =.015 pass side =.018

    Got Bad News...

With a dial indicator the best I can get is .025 Thought I would have seen 4x that. To tripple check and confirm I'm getting ready to craw under it again. Anyone know the GM book spec for an 81?

    Got Bad News...

Progress is slow, with a bad right rotators-cuff and using a creeper I can only get about two hours work time then I have to quit. Took too much time to remove the catalytic converter, even with a sawzall, then heat from a torch the two front top rust/welded bolts were a bear to cut and punch...

    Got Bad News...

And so the process begins, it took two hours of careful rigging to get the chassis two-foot off the ground. Drove the front of the car up on 10" ramps, then carefully inch-by-inch raised the rear. The backside is sitting on two 6-ton jack stands > for giggles I may swap them for 12 ton stands...

Steering Gear Box > Like Hens Teeth!

    Got Bad News...

Getting another opinion, this shop seems on the up & up and doesn't think the play in the yokes may be 'excessive' or be the problem...he will inspect for free and give suggestions.

    Got Bad News...

Watched several YouTube vids on the rear and trailing arm removal instal etc...if I only had the shop and a lift with a couple jack stands :hb

    Got Bad News...

Thanks for the feedback... this shop owner is a long time friend and worked on Vettes & some high-end exotics ALL the time, but haven't really seen him or routinely take my vehicles to him (not even for state inspection) unless it's an alignment or something like this job I just can't do. Even...

    Got Bad News...

Took the Vette in for an alignment, and to get the alignment 100% the rear has to come out > too much end play/wear in the yokes :hb Over the decades I can and have done a LOT of work on engines and vehicles, but now at 55 with a damaged rotators cuff, laying on my back under that car...

    SBC Block Coolant Capacity?

Andy, thanks for the chart. Went out to get my handy-dandy "anti-freeze and coolant tester" and, as mentioned it did show "0" on the dial. When I test straight-water the needle points straight down (doesn't move). When I test straight antifreeze, the needle slams all the way up ^ to -45...

    SBC Block Coolant Capacity?

Darn, filled the rad and even the 'flushing-T heater hose' with uncut antifreeze and I'm a "zero-degrees" when testing. I may have to drain some out of the rad and add back in more uncut to get to a 50/50 which I believe is -35 degrees. Some minor scale build-up in the rad...can't say the '...

    SBC Block Coolant Capacity?

Almost three gallons came out of the rad and some of the block...I know the block will still have 'some' water in it, at least up to the water pump ports. My rad has a brass plug for a drain, never an issue and easy to remove.

    SBC Block Coolant Capacity?

True, I wasn't thinking...the block will only have water up to the two water-pump ports.

    SBC Block Coolant Capacity?

Need to know how much the SBC 'block holds' > not the entire system. I use to know, but forgot. Almost six years on my coolant, the block grains are frozen and I'm not going to fock with them. I'll run a radiator flush, drain, back-flush the system until clear...but...the block will then be...

    Insurance Questions

$15,000 'agreed value' 12 month (no down time) policy, 6000 mile/annual mileage cap (I usually average 3000) for $100.00 > > > I can't beat that with a stick unless, and God forbid I have a claim and they use or find all kinds of loopholes to not pay > then I would be one :mad Mother F'er.

    Insurance Questions

Well, looks like I will have an "agreed-value" coverage through Adam Boca at the National Corvette Museum/American Modern Insurance Group, with a 6000 mileage tier (usually I'm at 3,500) I actually spoke to Bobbie Joe, a very nice helpful woman to chat with. Just sent over several...

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions...making calls Monday! :thumb BTW, Travelers can kiss my hairy A$$ Farmers, and State Farm are showing me much better home-owners coverage at almost 1/3 LESS (in 28 years with Travlers I never had a claim but for the past 4 consecutive years they keep...
