In addition to checking the grounds, if this were my car, I'd have the battery load tested. Don't let them get away with just checking the output with no load. Any good garage should have the tool to load test the battery.

The wiring connections to/from the battery, ground and starter are all clean and tight, right? If it wants to crank but won't it could very well be a loose connection to the starter. Did Sears load test the battery or just put a multimeter across it?

There are after market conversion kits for changing the entire dash to analog gauges or even digital gauges which look like analog gaages. Google is your friend.

How was it running before you parked it? Normal?
