For what it's worth I had the same exact problem on my 99, went to a local gm dealer :rotfl and what it boiled down to was rust that had built up on the edges of the pully's, belt's were fine but got replaced anyway and pully's cleaned up.. quiet as a mouse! P.S. no slipsumeasy used at all on...

D, if i remember right wasn't there a post about a replacement sending unit that's remote so you don't have to take the intake off or cut the cowl above the original ? It's a plug with braided steel line then the sending unit that straps to the fuel rail.
