I could use some cheering up

Try a piece of old leather belt and a pipe wrench to get the knob off without marring it.

    L82 oil pan

This is the baffle on the bottom of the L82. I would think, I'm not sure, that it will interfere with an L48 pan.

    L82 oil pan

The difference between the L82 and L48 oil pans is in the baffling. The L82 pan has less because it has a main cap mounted baffle. I've had 3 L82 pans on my bench the last year. All 3 had a sump baffle, but only 2 had side scrapers. I'll post a pic of the insides if you want. Some of the...

Posted this pic for a guy on another site, thought it might help to add it here too.

    Bad Gas - Need Advice

Like you thought, siphon it out. Get a length of CLEAR vinyl hose, about 6 or 7 feet, and a section of copper plumbing line to attach to it, like the chrome ones under your kitchen sink. That way you can reach down to the bottom of the tank. The clear hose lets you see the gas coming before you...

    Help! Strange leak

Minor leaks from the water passage at the rear of the intake manifold tend to show up where you describe. Do you notice any drips hanging from the starter? Feel around at the back of the intake/head area.

    1978 VETTE L-82 INTAKE MANIFOLD-CORRECT COLOR

They're painted 'aluminum'. Most of the suppliers of engine enamel or high heat paints have an aluminum. I've used Plasti-kote HP14 aluminum hi-temp(header paint).

    2008 Pace Cars In Transit

I'll never forget 30 years ago travelling along I57 south of Chicago right along side a carrier with SEVEN 78 Pace Cars on it.

    Question: Carb Idle Stop Solenoid

Yes, the statement is correct. It simply kicks the idle up a few 100rpm when the air is in use. I would think it's the same for L48 and L82. Not adjustable. Only on automatics, not on manuals.

    Question: Trim Taggin'!

I imagine the cloth seats were simply a personal preference by buyers or dealers ordering the cars. No difference in price between cloth or leather. My 78SA has blue cloth seats and I really like them. Would I have ordered them if I purchased the Vette new? Probably not, but they grow on you...

    Question: Trim Taggin'!

The cloth seats WERE rare in the Pace Cars, as for how many, don't know. Mine correctly shows the 152 leather. I can't imagine the trim tag being wrong. Just as a double check, is the eighth number of your VIN a 9? How many miles on yours? An acquantance of mine has a 78 silv ann and needed to...

    Question: Trim Taggin'!

OK, H11 is April 11, 78. Why April? Eighth month of 78 production counting back to late 77. As for cloth seats, they were available in the Pace Car, BUT reproduction replacements weren't available for the cloth seats (possibly available now, tho)so you may have replacement leather seat covers...

Question: Floor Board Drain Holes on 1981

This is the style "plug" used in all 4 drain holes on all of my Vettes. Original. More of a drain hose than a plug.

    Blue motor vs Orange motor

Old guy that lived next door to my parents had the same situation. He traded in his beloved 68 Olds for I think a 76. He noticed the motor was orange but didn't really think much of it. I was the bearer of the unfortunate news when I walked over with my dad to look at his new car. He did get...

    Blue motor vs Orange motor

It's referred to as corporate blue. Back in the late 70s they were putting Chevy motors in Oldsmobiles and it caused a big stink. Guess they figured if they painted all the divisions motors the same color they could just put them in whatever models they wanted.
