As long as things aren't rusty, it's simple. Move it rearward all the way. Peel up the carpet tabs that are glued over the front bolts. Unbolt the two front bolts. Move the seat all the way forward and remove the two rear bolts. Lift it out of the Vette.

Put the long bolt through the strap and THEN put the nut and lock washer onto the end of the bolt and screw it into the crossmember weld nuts. The nut won't fit through the hole in the strap.

The nylon leader that pushes the mast up and down broke. All the vendors sell the repair part or you can still order it over the parts counter at any GM dealer. Pt no. 22038195 or 97 with CB. Instructions come with it. Hardest part is getting at it to remove it from the car.

According to the Black Book, UM6 is AM/FM Radio, etr stereo with cassette which should have included the oil temp gauge from the factory.

The 79 and earlier rocker panels are 1" longer than the 80-82. May present some front tire clearance issues. Remove the paint and buff em out.

A few years earlier, 78-79, it simply attached to the upper rear passenger side valve cover bolt.

Get both, the Assembly Manual and the 78 Shop Manual. For some extra info, get the 79 Corvette Shop Manual. Pretty much covers the 78, too. Couple of electrical details are different, tho. Try removing the chrome bezel. I think you'll be surprised to find it's not real tight. Once that's off, nobody even needs to be near your paint anymore.

Early78 and earlier years I believe it's simply taped to the harness near the fuse box. Maybe a little higher up. Noticed it in the AIM just yesterday while looking for something else. Can post a pic of the illustration if ya need.

I also took everything apart to remove the switch the FIRST time. Took the switch apart and cleaned the copper leaves inside. Worked great, BUT, I put the switch insides back in 180* off so that it worked opposite from original. Didn't like that pass side worked one way and driver side worked...

I've successfully removed and replaced window switches by removing just the carpeted side panel on the side the bad switch is on. No need to disturb the console. It helps to have a 90* ratcheting phillips screwdriver to get the screw next to the seat out.
