I would be happy to have a body that good to start with. From the pictures I would say repair what is there. Any body man that works on corvettes can repair all those spots in short order. Im looking for a 58 to 60 to restore. Let me know if you know of one. Good luck with yours. Brian
I got a 1960 that I have tried to buy for many years. The orig. owner was a good friend of my dad. They are both gone now but the son still has the car. He has it parked outside under trees. The top is long gone, the car is filled with what ever has fallin from the trees for the last 10 years...
My L88 turns 7500 RPMs Like it's nothing. What you have is changed so much from a true L88 who knows what it should do. I agree with the above to change the cam and rockers and start your own setup so you know what you all dealing with. What carb and intake are you running. Lowering the...
I also agree with John. I own a shop and can tell you that stripping and painting a whole car is a lot of work and very time consuming. I do all the vette work myself because to put one of my guys on a corvette job and pay them 24.00 per hour Its a loser everytime. Now what do you guys think...
I would try to bond the new skin to the old frame first. The skins are pretty flexable and it may just work. The C1 hood has a curve to it and the midyear is almost flat but I would try it. If you would like my advise you can call me at my shop. 203 888 4018. It is much easer to talk to you than...
I have three big block cars. The 390 Hp 427 in my 66 is no powerhouse. Remember that the 390 was the baby 427. A 425 solid lifter motor will walk all over the 390 motor. The 390 motor runs out of steam around 5000 rpms. thats no fun. The L88 in my Grand Sport turns 7500 rpms like nothing. Your...
All that cutting and splicing is going to come back to haunt you after you paint the car. You are going to get some movement in the glass when it gets hot in the sun. You would be much better off making a mockup of the hood skin the way you want it and then make a mold from that. Then layup a...
Check some very simple frame measurments. make sure it is square. then measure the lower ball joints. there will be holes in the frame that are the same from side to side pick one of these holes and go to the center of each ball joint. they should be the same to within plus or minus 1\4 inch...
hurst tec line
The hurst tec line is worthless. I had the same thing happen over a year ago and they where no help at all. Now i find old hurst parts like rods and levers even install brackets and save them for future projects. I know this don't help you but it is something to keep in mind...
I know my trans guy used slides from a borg. super T10 he also did some custom work on the detents. i use synthetic oil but truly these changes made little difference. like i said its not bad, it is not much different than say a stock shifterin a mid year. a little crunchy.
I have a doug nash 5 speed in one of my cars. It dose not shift as smooth as a muncie. I had the slides and detents changed and it still is only ok. If you shift easy you will get used to it and its not bad, if you are going to be powershifting and banging gears you will not be happy. As far as...
Put a hurst in it with the orig. looking shifter. No GM car ever had a good 4sp. shifter. The extra hole is to make it easy to install and to set the alinement pin. You cant beat a hurst. Sky i have a complete hurst setup for sale,I was going to put it on Ebay but if you want it email me.
To keep the bare steel finish alot of guys spray them with flat clear eng. enamel. it works great for all the bare steel parts. any parts store should have it with the spray bombs. if you want just black PPG DP 90 epoxy primer and a shot of clear looks good and holds up very well.
Keith. Sounds like your doing just fine. If you can just strip the rear deck and blend the quarters and the roof, thats not to bad. I would heat the car again after you strip it and again before you final sand, just to be safe. Im going to dechrome my 66 coupe today, needs paint bad. Keep us...
65 TRiple black has a point. i guess i am used to doing paint with the body off the frame and apart. sorry for the bad advise on the temp. 150 f should be fine. By the way one of my painters just went to a dupont class last week he told me today that dupont is going to stop selling the uro...
