The 70 1/2 Camaro was one of the most beautiful production cars Chevy put out IMO.
And the dash was much better looking than the 1st Gen. In fact, give me the TransAm dash with the engine turned fascia and that thick TA wheel.
I had 2.13" dia. TBIs on my 84. ~ 750cfm.BUT that was with manifold porting and Extrude Hone'd, TFS23d heads, roller cam and TPIS headers. Made 285rwhp. And there's more to getting it there than just slapping on heads and cam. I was one of the first to do it, so at least now you have a template...
Agreed. You wish these people would at least use a modicum of sense and facts. As far as "the death knell for performance" meme, they said that in the 70's when stricter pollution laws essentially made fuel injection and engine control management a requirement. Now look what we have! Horrors...
Unless they're willing to post a continuous non-edited vid of the run with timing, any claims are just B.S. I'd love to see a Ron Fellows run at Nurburg...
Ported Top End, Watson 1 7/8" headers, Magnaflow cat back, stock cams and heads. Second dyno is Ported Top End/GVD heads, stock block, Watson headers, DynoMax Ultraflow w z06 flapper, larger intake/stock exhaust cams, my own tuning.
Hib,
I appreciate your writing and your sense of history re: the LT5 and ZR-1 programs. However it's not correct to suggest that a 5.7L LT5 with headers, and top end porting won't make 400rwhp.
I'll post my SAE corrected dyno sheet next. Also, look at what Haibeck is now claiming for a stock...
Well if you're going to lose to anything, I'd rather it be a Ferrari. I've always felt the Corvette guys held a certain kinship with Il Cavallino. The Italia is gorgeous.
One other thing about the LT-5 is how receptive it is to mods and increasing horsepower. With just the addition of headers, and DIY porting of the plenum and injector housings, you can go from 375cwhp(factory rating) to a 400rwhp motor. These things just LOVE to breathe.
Had it on my 92 ZR-1 and really liked the look and sound. Supported 400rwhp w resonator.
Find one for about 600 and it's a good deal. I've since gone to SW Xpipe w
DynoMax Ultraflow & Z06 flapper tips. Louder but need the reduced restriction when pumping out 430+ rwhp. On a stock LT4, you'll...
Nothing wrong w the Xfire if maintained. Actually, pretty reliable system. Look at how many of them used on trucks. If u r keeping motor stock. I would just re-build system.
They've been using DFI in trucks for years. I am sure there is awareness of the issue and what to do about it. What about the Caddy 3.4L? Any reported problems w that?
