I tried to start my 454 tonight.

Your carburetor has no choke. I'm surprised the engine would continue running at all after a cold start. Try partially covering the primary venturis (NOT WITH YOUR HANDS) to simulate a choke until the engine warms up.

From The Grave..What Are They Worth..Barn Find C-1 Parts

It's hard to say, Jim. I believe I saw these FI parts for sale at Carlisle. The 908 distributor had an asking price of $2,000. I think the FI unit was priced at $2,400 when I walked by Friday morning. I didn't make a lower offer on either because I was beat down by that time. I had made...

wanted Holley list 3370 or 3606

If you do a search on eBay using "3370", you will find some offered. I would buy the new one for $525 myself.

Did you sell the FI parts at Carlisle? If not, I may buy them. Please tell me the prices you must have. Thanks, Jerry Bramlett

    '63 wiper motor question

There is too much to type in detail, so here's a summary. You can call me at (251) 478-4003 during Central Time business hours if you want to talk more. I think you've gotten two bad "rebuilt" WW motors. There are several other visible ground connections in the forward wiring harness for a...

    1961 Restoration Update

I suggest you go to an auto paint store and have them custom mix some vinyl dye to match your sample. Most PPG stores can also put a custom mix into an aerosol spray can if that is what you want.

    What a waste!!!!

Running pre-'68 Corvettes sold for $1,000 to $3,000 in the early seventies. Paying the higher end got you a very, very nice car that needed nothing to drive daily. After all, new 454 Corvettes were selling for around $6,000 in 1971. As far as figuring out the Corvette pack-rat mind, forget it...

    carb and intake

All the bolt-on timing tabs I have seen have been for post-'68 balancers. In your shoes I would use a TDC finder (piston stop tool) to verify that your balancer mark matches that particular timing tab.

    Choke Woes

That bimetallic coil is actually called a choke thermostat by GM. I used to buy the one for your car under part #3887148. I don't know if that part is still available, but I would call a local dealership before going to Paragon or LICS. I've never known an aftermarket parts store like...

    Choke Woes

I would replace the bimetallic spring mounted on the intake manifold. It controls the choke release time. There are only two adjustments possible with that choke design. You can change the fast idle speed by using a screwdriver to bend the metal tang that contacts the plastic step cam. You...

    Distributor help needed urgently PLEASE

Checking for timing chain slop is a good idea, but don't let the results scare you. After only a few thousand miles a new chain will have about 4 distributor degrees of slop. A chain with 50,000 miles of wear might have twice that much. I would still use the stock spark timing with a worn...

    Distributor help needed urgently PLEASE

Please let me offer some food for thought. The outer ring of the harmonic balancer won't simply "slip" around the balancer centerline. That's an old wives' tale. Some bad things CAN happen to a balancer. A pressed-on harmonic balancer hub can come off the end of the crank. The outer ring can...

Holley 4160, secondary won't kick in.

That's possible, but not a common problem. That passage sees only clean venturi vacuum. Did you use the little red cork gasket (between the carb main body and the secondary diaphragm housing) or a rubber o-ring? Maybe it compressed enough to squeeze the opening shut.

Holley 4160, secondary won't kick in.

If you have a Corvette assembly line carb model such as a List #2818, 3367, or 3810, then it doesn't use a restrictor ball in the secondary diaphragm base like most aftermarket spec Holleys. If you installed such a ball in a diaphragm vacuum passage not designed for one, then it will block...

    327 Bypass valve

Paragon sells a nice reproduction '56 - '67 bypass valve for $27 under part #807K. However, I'm not sure what you're seeking. You have a "conversion"? A conversion from a stock '64 filter system to what?

    1967 Vette VIN ?

Well, actually you can also tell from the VIN you posted that a digit is missing. You might want to re-check it. It's probably just a typo in your post.

    sealant for temp sending unit

You'll probably get advice from some folks to use nothing or dire consequences will result. However, I've been using a white teflon paste pipe sealant made by Permatex/Loctite that has always worked well for me. It comes in a toothpaste sized tube for about $15. If you use nothing, you will...

    '65 coupe - estate sale

I agree with Tom. Convertibles are much easier to sell than coupes. However, that particular coupe has factory air, factory solid lifters, and a factory black exterior. Those options add quite a bit to the value. If your convertible has KH knock-offs rather than reproductions, I would...

    '65 coupe - estate sale

If you sell, you're going to find that there is a lot of price compression in the old Corvette market. You can probably get $25,000 for this car as-is, where-is, if it has a clear title, the original engine block, and a very solid frame. Or, you could spend several weeks of labor and $5,000...

    327/365hp carb question

Well 65stinger, I'm not sure you're listening to me at this point, but I'll try again with different words. Rebuilding and then trying to convert your manual choke #1850 Holley to a hot air choke is a financially bad idea. The #1850 Holley on eBay sounds like a fifties Ford carburetor. The...
