The sealer to use for mid-year windshields is 3M Bedding and Glazing Compound. It is a black goo in a tube that never hardens and remains sticky. You squirt it with a caulking gun. I've used this product since the seventies on Corvette windshields. Anyone who tells you to use a sealer that...
Make a realistic plan
I would design the engine for the intended rpm range for most of your driving. For example, if you're going to stick with the powerglide automatic and drive on city streets, you'll seldom see more than 2,500 rpm even with a 3.70 rear. The easiest way to get more torque...
I agree with Wayne. It sounds like oil/moisture from the compressor that was used while spraying. Did you use a professional spray set-up with in-line dryers? What was the weather like during the days you shot paint?
I'm not clear on one point. Is the liquid bubbling up under the gel-coat...
I'm pretty sure I have a set of 2" small block pipes upstream of the chambered section. If that is what you want, I'll go find them to determine their condition.
Yes, I tried it two years ago on a '66 with a fairly stock 327 engine. The pipe was routed just behind and under the bellhousing.
Sorry, but I couldn't tell any difference in power or sound. I later removed it to avoid adding heat to the transmission oil.
I'm sorry I can't be more supportive of the warrranty replacement idea.
Yes, the "870" block casting number was used on all Chevrolet 327 blocks for several years during the sixties regardless of the vehicle application. This number was not unique to the Corvette model. The same is true of...
I believe an "S" code 327 was a 250hp passenger car engine. Theoretically, if a dealer ordered a currently available complete 327/250hp engine assembly in 1964, it would have arrived with a date and hp code stamp on it. However, I personally doubt that happened in this case. I suspect that...
I don't know what you have there.
A core support mounts to the fenderwells at different angles in '63-5 and '66-7. You can't interchange a '65 with a '66 core support unless you have multiple mounting hole positions in your fenderwells.
The problem is removing a fiberglass fan shroud from a...
Ken and Gary Naber will inspect a car for sale in the Houston area for $250. Their shop number is (713) 664-5018. I think they have more mid-year restoration experience than anyone else in the country.
I mean no offense, but I sure hope you're not hunting for a free inspection. I consider...
The three character date code represents the last digit of the year, the month, and the week within that month (1 through 5). Month number "zero" is October. November and December are represented by letters (A and B).
I believe Holley began using the four digit date code in 1972. The first...
I suggest you leave it alone and on the tank. I can promise you that you will do more harm trying to "remove and protect" it than if you just let it sit on the tank in your car (in your garage) for the next 100 years.
If you feel you absolutely must do something, store the whole tank in your...

If you can return that carb, I would do so.
I have tried to make Edelbrock carbs work on several mid-years at the request of customers. I've never solved the air cleaner fit problem to my satisfaction. The stock air cleaner needs another 1/2" or so to clear the choke...

I just e-mailed you off the board. I have a digital photo of a color sample cut from an original '65 U.S. Royal goldline tire. However, I couldn't attach the photo to the e-mail "form" so you'll have to answer me if you want it. Sorry.
In 1974 I did my first valve job on a 1960 Corvette 283. I just put oil on the head bolt threads when re-installing them. It scared the crap out of me when several bolts seaped coolant after start-up.
That was only one of the many mistakes I made while "repairing" that engine.

Please call me today. My shop/home number is (251) 478-4003.
If the fuel injection was the problem, your engine should have at least fired a little with the spray of starting ether into the air meter. I've seen engines run on periodic shots of ether with no gasoline line hooked to...
I wasn't very clear about the differences in the idle and low speed characteristics of these cams in my earlier post, so I'll give it another shot.
The 151 cam idle sounds kinda wicked in a little engine like a 283. In a 327 the 151 cam has a slightly rough idle at 750 rpm. I wouldn't call...
GM cam grinds
I have found the "097" Duntov cam to have a lope at idle in a 283. This cam even has a ragged 750 rpm idle in a 327. You can match this idle by using a 327/350 "151" hydraulic cam. It has much more lift but about as much duration.
I wouldn't use the "30-30" solid cam in a...
Let me guess... he's an old man and he's owned the car forever. He says he's "going to fix her up some day". His number is legion. He doesn't like people asking about the car because it reminds him that he won't get off his couch to repair it.
Some day will never come for him...
Rare birds
I've only heard of one mid-year build sheet turning up in a pre-1967 mid-year. Don Mullenoff in Livermore, CA, found one inside his '65 396 convertible earlier this year. He sent me a xerox of it. Sorry, I don't know how to make a post showing it.
I've never encountered such a...
