Does Gear ratio affect HP rating on a Dyno?

This is a fundamental question that may be obvious to some. I've been following several topics on HP and rear gear ratio and have to wonder. Numerically, if you have a higher gear ratio you will accelerate faster when compared to a lower gear ratio number (i.e. 3.73 and 2.59 respectively)...

    Armorall Good or bad?

Elaine. Your right! ArmorAll is silicone based. What I use is pure silicone spray for the weatherstripping. I was told not to use anything but Silicone spray on the soft weathersripping. I miss printed by saying Silicone "based" in my description.

    Armorall Good or bad?

I was told never to use Armorall on the Weather-stripping. Apparently it will make the soft rubber harden prematurely. Use Silicone based cleaners or spray only. I don't think it will hurt plastic like your dash board etc. I do know that it causes a light film to build up on the inside of...

    Wash Engine??

It's the LT1 engines from 92-96 that had the OptiSpark ignition system. I think your 87 is safe to spray with GUNK or other engine cleaners. It wont hurt to cover the Alternator and Distributor with a plastic bag just to be safe, and don't drown the engine with water. Use an old tooth brush...

    tapping noise

Here's a thought. Are you running a Holley carb. Check your floats for leaks in the carb. I had a similar thing happen to my 72 Camaro (w/Holley) the float was getting water logged (with fuel) and not closing the needle valve to the bowl. It was intermittant at first but when the float lost...

    dyno results on 95 LT1

Your HP may be a little low by about 5 -10 HP, air temp may be the culprit, but your torque is right up there. Don't be dissapointed these numbers are better than stock from what I have heard.

    explain the hp ratings please

Dealer Window stickers will show Fly Wheel HP through the accessories. This is universal throughout the Auto industry to keep apples to apples. But, it's not uncommon for a manufacturer to UNDER RATE the true output of an engine. I think the LT4 comes to mind as an Under Rated performer.

    explain the hp ratings please

I will try my best to explain. Rear wheel Horse Power or RWHP is roughly 15%-20% less power than the Fly Wheel Horse Power rating. This is due to drive train loss such as Automatic/Manual transmissions, gears, weight of the tires and wheels etc. Fly Wheel Horse power is what the engine will...

    Idle problem 1991 automactic

Your throttle Body (TB) may need to be cleaned, and/or your Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) may need adjusting. I don't think either of these will throw a code. 196K is a testament to how well built these engines are.

    explain the hp ratings please

Your actually asking a very general question. Can you be more specific. Wayne

For those interested: Dyno results for stock 96 LT1

From what I've heard those are actually pretty good numbers. 245 HP from an automatic LT1 equates to 300 HP at the flywheel and this is show room stock. This equates to roughly 18% loss through the drive train. Your 17 HP (at the fly wheel) above stock numbers. Either you have some mods...

    93 octane

From what I have heard and read about the LT1 the answer is NO she did not hurt the engine. With the onboard computer the timing will be advanced or retarded according to various input from knock sensors, oxygen sensors and a whole slew of others to keep the engine from self distructing...

I think my gas gauge is not working

My 92' ran out of gas Monday. It was showing RESERVE on the guage and I think 2 bars on the fuel meter. However, I was going up a long hill about 1 mile long (got 1/2 way up) when it happened. I do agree that when the fuel guage says 1/2 fuel it is more like 1/4 or less but I have not...

Local cheapskate looking for freebie :)

I'm not sure what you mean by "bare Bones" model. I think in 96' all vettes came well equiped as standard equipment. However, if the owner is asking to much (for your liking) then offer what you feel the vette is worth. Worst that can happen is he/she says no... PS: Sorry, I don't carfax...

just got my first vette.. where to start??

Congratulations on your purchase of a new (previously enjoyed)Vette, and especially a 92'. Personnaly I think you bought the best year corvette but I am a little biased. If you are looking for what works on your vette you don't have to go much further than this CAC site. Take your time and go...

    Purchasing a '92 - Advice please!

To add my two cents worth. I bought my 92, 2.5 years ago with 52K. Now have 58K and I need to drive it more but thats a topic for another thread. Sofar I have replaced the water pump and Starter motor. I have had no problems with the optispark or anything else electrical (knock on wood). I...

    Info on 1991 Vette

In stock form the L98 in 91' did the 1/4 m in low 14's (14.2 I think) with a 6 speed. The 92' LT1 vette did it in 13.6. I doubt you can tell the difference by seat of the pants feel between the two years even though there are 50 more HP from the LT1. As mentioned the LT1 just keeps pulling...

    New LT1 purchase-possible?

LT1's are out there in remanufactured form with warranties. I don't know why you are discounting Remans. A good shop will give you better than new LT1's. I saw an add not too long ago for a base stock LT1 (long block) for around $2500, (keep in mind this is from memory). It did not include...

Good Deal? Your Opinion? Buying 94 LT 26,000 mi

I bought my 92 almost 3 years ago with 52K on the odo. I had the water pump go out (also the fuel filter clogged and replaced) but that is all. It has been the best car with exceptional power that I have ever owned. The LT1 in my opinion is one of the best SBC ever built. Reliability and...
