Heh! The car was black before we started this project. Actually, Sue's the one who caved! :grinshot She was voting for red.
Bruiser??? I'm not sold on that yet. Names I have had for the car are: Rust Bucket, S..t Box, Exxon Valdez (leaked oil)...you get the picture. I think Budget Buster...
Wow! The car is really shaping up and the flares look great! I know the details will slow us down, but the progress Chris made over the week-end was fantastic. :_rock
Here is a front quarter view of the flares where the symmetry really shows up. The front air dam really blends well with...
I have a #8005 Weiand "Action Plus" aluminum intake that might work for you.
It is a divided plenum, oval port, Holley flange manifold that measures 8.5" from the top of the Holley carb (bottom of the choke horn) to the top of the distributor mount pad. It's almost like new. I ran it about...
wonder if the c3 would suffer from...becoming airborne at high speed
Our C3 race car did not suffer from aero problems. It was very stable at high speeds (approx. 165). It did, however, suffer from chassis flex and being heavy (2900+#) compared to the tubeframe cars it had to run against.
Bullitt
I'm not sure exactly where you mean to plate or triangulate the ladder frame, but any plating or reinforcement is good because the frame is very flexible.
The Chevy Power book is an old one, out of print, but perhaps I can copy the pages dealing with the Corvette and I also have an old...
What diameter is the roll bar stock, the thickness and what grade of steel? Have you
It is 1-3/4" OD x .095 wall mild steel. Since the birdcage is new and bolted solidly to the frame, we attached the bar at the side of the birdcage to get some triangulation for the frame kick-up area. The...
Okay, we'll try this again!
Here is a 3/4 view.
This is a close up of where the bar welds into the frame.
This is a close up of where the bar goes through the body.
69MyWay said that someone had inquired about putting rollbars in a T-top.
I'll post a few pics of mine. It is built to SCCA road racing specs. More pics of my rebuild (in progress) are on http://www.tropiczoneracing.com/Street-Vette.htm
This first one is a shot from the front before paint.
I would say the ZL-1 flares are not harder to put on just different and may allow you to do different positioning more easily. However, the style that we used might be easier to blend into the original '71 bodywork.
We will use at least 12" wide rims, maybe 14's in either 16, 17 or 18"...
The flares are looking good! We might smooth the bottom corner of the flare a little.
Do you think if I drop off the chassis at Chris' in another 2 weeks the car should be ready to show? (1 week?)
Of course the project may be slowed down a little while Chris replaces the doors on his green...
Black Thunder :
We are still discussing paint but there aren't too many better choices than black.
Chris is doing an excellent job and more quickly than I can prep the chassis!
"Dave, you should take a few moments and post some kind of blurb in this thread about yourself and where you want to see this car go. From, 69MyWay"
I'll just be happy to see it going, again... anywhere!
I'm going to post a couple of pictures of mods we made to the frame.
The first one is...
I have to thank Chris for getting me into this project. I have enough trouble keeping the race car together. With Chris' help, things went together better and faster than I imagined they might.
Speaking of race cars, here is a shot of the new Corvette that one of our last year's drivers ran...
