I'm sorry but I don't see the conflict!
TPS is on the drivers side (rear)
Fuel inlet on the passenger side (FRONT)

Here's the tool you need
Metri-Pack & Weather Pack Crimping Tools
Your pin is similar to these, when released it comes out through the frontside.
The tool is pushing the tab down, be sure to pull the wire from the back side slightly or the tab will get jamed upward and you will play hell...
When testing for proper pin fit you need a male pin and you insert it in each female pin and you must feel some drag when you pull it out.
There is a drag value in the FSM I just don't remember what it is.
After checking a few its obvious which ones are bad.

Like LLC5 said what is the battery voltage before you turn anything in?
Also when checking for charging irregularities one gets better results checking the output voltage right at the back in the alternator!

The charging system and the Guages are 2 different things when diagnosing.
One needs to monitor voltage at the battery output from the alternator and compare it to what you are seeing on the Guage when it is acting up.
Then go from there

Either it has/had a remote start system or a starter interrupt circuit for security.
The latter is pretty common in big cities!
