Bad sound coming from my 1972

I seem to recall adding "whale oil" or "sperm [whale] oil to quiet posi clutches years ago - - -it struck me as kinda gross not to mention environmentally insensitive - - but it worked! Do they still market such a product or have the PETA folks prevailed so that synthetics now do the trick ...

78 a/c question and how rare is my car?

7825th: What's the phone number to - -and what years does it work for? I'd love to get a copy of my build sheet or window sticker if it was available - - -I recently peeled my build sheet off the top of the gas tank and there was nothing readable - -it had all faded. Many thanks-

    just checking

avatar ZGator After you've put up 'x' number or posts, members are permitted to post their own avatars (pictures) under their screen names - - -I've tried to do that several times, but am always told that the image is too large - - and frankly, I have neither the technical ability or patience...

Painting the frame "Gloss" versus "Semi-Gloss"

Greetings: I went the same route as Timme with our 74 - - -sanded the frame and wheel wells and painted with semi-gloss or satin finish - -- painted springs and connecting pieces with gloss - - -gunmetal/hammered finish on the pourous/rough finished pieces like the pumpkin and half-shafts. I'm...

Some killer fall pics from last weekend.

Wonderful pix and a great looking car . . .I'm actually looking at a 96 Polo Green with black here in Scottsdale and will be parting with our 74 t-top. . . Am heading for Twin Cities in a week and hope the weather's as good as it looks in your pictures! Regards-

    Seats

lnirenberg : I think you'd be comfortable with the seat height - - in fact it might afford better visibility-- but I'm unsure whether the steering wheel might then feel too low absent a tilt/tele feature - - -wish you were closer, I'd say "come on over !"

WANTED: Chrome rear deck grills for 75 Vette

I can tell you Derrick, that there are darn few of them around and even fewer that are reasonably priced. Ecklers and others offer them, but you may be better off to march down to your local south Texas chrome shop with grills in hand. I've watched E-Bay for months and have yet to find anything...

    Seats

I replaced the C-3 seats in my 74 just as Robin has done and although I like the lateral support they provide, I feel like I'm sitting up too high in the car. I'm told that the floors can be cut away to reduce the seat height - - or that the cushions can be remounted on the older style frames...

To Dump in $$ or Not??

In the event you choose to replace the original engine, you may want to clean up the old one and crate it up in the event the next owner wants strict originality - - they can rebuilt it if it warrants the investment and meantime, you enjoy the performance of the new crate engine without making...

    1973's Values

The 73's have always been my favorite year - -to some degree on the "one-off" years, the prices are all over the place and seem in good measure to be guided obviously by general condition/absence of rust, total miles and originality. I've seen them from $7500 for a driver to nearly $20k for...

    Tire Dressing Recommendation

Believe it or not, I've regularly used Mop & Glo' floor wax on tires and some underhood/under-car plastic and metal parts - - it's not as high gloss as many of the tire foams or armor all, but leaves a nice, clean satin finish. Not too "high-tech" . . .but it works for me ! Regards-

    Coolant type

Tom: Interesting suggestion . . but water boils at 212 degrees . . .and I guess I've always thought (perhaps eroneously) that "anti-freeze" both lowered to freezing temp of water as well as raised it's boiling point. Do you have any experience with products like "water-wetter" ? Thanks for...

    Coolant type

I can understand mixing differing chemical types . . like water wetter with Prestone, etc... but didn't know the mix could be so catastrophic! I'll defer to the Marines on the subject - - I never liked orange and green anyway . . . .. CQRT in AZ

    Coolant type

I'll yield to those with better knowledge, but on first pass, I'd say that the difference in color is as simple as different manufacturers . . and there's no problem in mixing brands them although ideally, the system should be flushed. In addition, I believe you want to run a 50 / 50 mix of...
