Simplest , strong Corvette engine and auto trans for C1 conversion w/C4 suspension.??

Stan: When we built my wife's 62 frame conversion car she did not want to put "modern" wheels on the car either. We ended up with 17" x 7" chrome "smoothies" with Moon style hubcaps. Perhaps not the look you are after but here is a link to some pictures: http://www.carols62.com/aug02.html I'm...

    C1 hood scoop - opinions

Larry: I had some pieces of 1" thick closed cell insulation board left over from when I built the new shop, so I just glued some of them together and then glued them to the old hood. The stuff is real easy to shape with a sharp knife and sand paper. The final coat is body filler, about half a...

    C1 hood scoop - opinions

Final Hood Design K&N says you should have 1" clearance above one of their filter tops; you can get away with 1/2" but you will be "defeating the purpose of the filter top". This design gives me about 1/2" minumum clearance over the edges of the filter top, maybe 3/4" in the center. So here is...

Lousy Fit of Vette on Lift

With a C1 loaded the front arms are angled back about 10 deg. With a C5 they are angled back a little more. Charles

Lousy Fit of Vette on Lift

I installed a 10,000# assymetric two post lift in my new shop. I'll admit it did look a little strange the first time I put a car on it, but I've been lifting cars for about two years with no problems. I bought mine from a local dealer because, when I started looking at lifts, he made them in...

    C1 hood scoop - opinions

Larry: I know. Just yanking your chain a little. Barry: I understand your idea but 'm not too sure I like the idea of the forward facing scoop. I'll have to draw it out and see what it looks like. Right now I am in the process of lowering the center of the scoop about 0.75" in order to make...

    C1 hood scoop - opinions

Well, since the height of my intake/carb/filter is pretty much fixed, there is not too much I can do on the overall height of the hood scoop. BTW, I do have a dropped base on my air filter and the car has a large cap HEI distributor. I have a 3" high filter and also a filtered cover. I'll have...

    C1 hood scoop - opinions

firstgear: I have a hood that appears to be the same as the one you just bought. Below is a picture of the hood on my '59. Does the underside of your hood have any provision for attaching the hinges? Mine had only two small pads that had been filled in with body filler. Not sure how anyone could...

    C1 hood scoop - opinions

studiog: Not sure what you mean by "overly rounded in the front". Do you mean that you think the top of the scoop should be flatter? Here are my two initial designs from a rendered CAD drawing. If I extend the opening forward like picture on the left, I can flatten the top of the scoop...

    C1 hood scoop - opinions

Below is a picture of the hood scoop I have mocked up for my '59 project. Should I extend the opening more forward toward the front of the hood? Opinions welcome. Charles

    Steering rack leak

Thanks for the replys. I just read the spec sheet on the Lucas Stop Leak stuff and it indicates that it is for seal leaks. What I have appears to be more of a mechanical joint leak. I might give the stop leak a try but I'm afraid a bottle of the stuff would leak out too quickly to do any...

    Steering rack leak

I have a ’62 frame conversion car that has C4 suspension and steering. The steering rack is leaking around what appears to be a plug located in the center of the rack tube housing (see picture below). This plug appears to go completely through the housing and perhaps is peened or flattened on...

What would cause torque steer on my 62

Larry: Has this "torque steer" been happening since you put the car together or is this something new? How about the rear toe in? A more unlikely cause may be a bad tire. Try swapping them around and see if anything changes. Charles

Considering upgrade from 427/400 to either 502 or zz572 "recommendations"

I thought I was the only one that experienced weird stuff like that! Charles

Considering upgrade from 427/400 to either 502 or zz572 "recommendations"

Stepinwolf: I had a few minor problems with my motor that I will post on my web site in a week or so. You can check it out at: http://www.carols62.com/59 Look at the October, 2005 page for some more information. Charles

Considering upgrade from 427/400 to either 502 or zz572 "recommendations"

I just got the 572/620 in my '59 project fired up for the first time this week. 572 is a tall block, about 0.4" taller than 502 which makes finding aftermarket intake manifolds harder unless you use spacers. 572 also comes with high rise (sort of) intake manifold. 572 also has mechanical fuel...

Barry: You were correct about the text size being the culprit. I reduced the text size on my browser and that fixed the problem. Old eyes I guess. Charles

    temp sender unit

Barry: I tried your website on Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, and Mozilla Firefox. Only Explorer displayed the menu items correctly. One of those Microsoft "features" no doubt. Charles
