Tom,
I too built a few 301's in the old days. If I remember correctly, you needed a 59 or later 283 to safely bore them out .125 over. The early 283's were too thin to go more than .060 over.

My buddies 59 had a very similar problem. It would idle in the driveway all day long but when you started to drive it, the temp. would slowly climb until you either stopped or it would boil over. Nothing had been done to the car other than it sitting for 6 months. He took it to a repair shop and...
It seems to make winning less than satisfying when you have to solicit votes on all the Corvette forums. Kinda like winning a car show where all the judges are family members.:eyerole
Unfortunately for TM, it fell short of his prediction by $400K. The market is not like it once was for Corvette's. I saw him jump in at the last minute and won several cars and he seemed pizzed. My bet is that he bought back several of his own cars. :eyerole
The earliest car I've seen that was stamped is car #1651 built 12-5-59. It was done without the gang holder which didn't get used until approx. car #5395.
Feel free to go to their web-site and enter your zip code for a quote. They are in Florida and I'm in Washington state and the shipping was about $30. Its surely going to be less than $145.

I asked the same question before I ordered my C5. EVERYONE said "get the Z51". All I can say is "that was the biggest mistake I could have made". Unless your roads are glass smooth, the combination of run flat tires and the Z51 suspension will rattle the fillings in your teeth out. I wouldn't...
Ray,
I found the info. in an article about dual fours written by Gary Hodges in an old issue of the NCRS Corvette Restorer. I can e-mail you a copy if you like. :beer
I use the rubberized cork gaskets (Fel-Pro # 12869R) about $10 vs. $8 for cork. I glue them to the valve cover and once dry, I lightly oil the other side and install them. Having had many solid lifter engines, it's nice to be able to pull the covers off to set the lifters and not have to replace...
Check page 255 of Noland Adams Resto. & Tech. Guide or page 18 of the NCRS 58-60 Tech. Info. Manual & Judging Guide. Both state that until 11-24-59 (approx. car # 1400 to 1500) the VIN tag was attached to the door pillar with phillips screws. After that date, they were spot welded to the...
