    gas mileage

Odometers do not change calibration assuming that the car still has the same diameter tires and rear gears that it was shipped from the factory with. Larger diameter tires would 'worsen' your gas mileage computations because the car is going farther than the odometer thinks it is. Don't know...

    Modern Receiver/CD Changer

A fellow CAC'er (69myway I think) hid the amp under the passenger seat. Just a thought.

    Modern Receiver/CD Changer

The only thing I am aware of that fits what you're looking for is the USA-5 by Custom Autosound (not sure if it has pre-amp outputs or not). I don't personally have one, but a friend of mine has one of the USA models in his old Impala and it sounds pretty good - he hasn't had any complaints...

    Location of RPO's on a 78?

The build sheet was glued to the top of the gas tank on my 78.

    Brake Caliper Reservoir

Howdy jjacob12345, Welcome to CAC! Yes, the front reservoir contains the brake fluid for the front brakes, and the rear reservoir for the rear brakes. It's designed like this so that if one caliper blows a seal then you don't lose all braking capability. If the rear is empty then you've been...

Keisler 5 speed - which OD gear to buy?

bossvette - just saw your edit. I think I'll read up on the 3550 - didn't know that was an option.

    poor performance, holley/qjet?

ruby76, Q-jets with vaccum secondaries can run great if they're set up properly. I'm definitely not the guy to give advice on that, but I can offer this - have you checked to see if the vaccum secondaries are even opening? If the spring tension is not adjusted correctly, they won't open and...

    1971 LS5 Cooling System Capacity

Draining the system from the radiator drain doesn't get all the coolant out of the engine block or the heater core. Sticking a hose into the top of the radiator and letting it run out the bottom drain valve only flushes the radiator itself. If you want a thorough system flush to change all the...

    Coolant type

I would go with the old school yellow/green stuff for two reasons. 1) That's what the system was designed for. 2) Nobody has shown me any reason that the orange stuff is any better. Good luck with it - and that LS-5 looks like a sweet Vette!

    Coolant type

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VETTE! Flush the system with a detergent and plenty of water. Do not mix the old yellow/green and the new orange. If you mix them they turn into a viscous gel - some even describe it as a glue. This will blow your water pump and gum up the coolant passages in the block. I...

Keisler 5 speed - which OD gear to buy?

Thanks for all the input guys. You all seem to be nudging me even further in the direction I was leaning. I'm definitely going with the TKO-600 due to the first gear ratio, and I'll most likely go with the .64 instead of the .82 OD gear - but like bossvette suggests, I'll do some driving in...

    My 82ce is home!!

cesully and zgator - go ahead and don't wait up for me - but drop me a line in January when I'm home from Iraq and I'll be game! PS - I wave to all the Vettes and any other cool/classic car I happen to pass. I even got a return wave from a guy in a 1970's Lotus once. At the next red light, he...

    paint

If you're looking for stripes in the silver/gray realm, check out what 1970 Stingray has done with his Vette. Look at post #3 in this thread: http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4578&highlight=Baldwin+Motion I don't know much about history, but I think he did his Vette...

    1980 Oil Pan

And if you've ever tried it on a 1984 Toyota Tercel hatchback you'll also know exactly what Robin means. When they stuff that big ol' 1.4 Liter engine in that little car, there's no room leftover! ;LOL ;LOL Dad wasn't happy when we hacksawed one of his wrenches so we could get that last bolt...

    which vacumn line is this????

The computer takes out all the extra spaces - use periods or dashes as placeholders to push things to the right where you want them. I had to do the same thing on my Keisler post.

    '78 - Electrical Problem?

Welcome to CAC! Does your car have underdrive pulleys? If so, they might not be spinning the alternator at enough RPM to generate electricity when you're in stop and go driving/parking lots and such (ie, when you got off the highway and slowed down). Also - you said you tested the alternator...

    My 82ce is home!!

zgator - congratulations! Sounds like you definitely get an A on your homework. Savannah huh? I'm up in Beaufort, SC. We'll have to get together for lunch sometime when I get home - maybe meet in Hilton Head some sunny afternoon. Semper Fidelis, Culprit
