The Western's are the more "correct" repo's, although they are not really repo's, they were the over the counter replacements availible through the GM dealers untill some time in the mid 70's. And yes they are hard to find, it sounds like yours are '64's and that is why they are grey.

Mine runs between 190 and 210 most of the time, you might have to high a thermostat, in there and it isn't opening if this is just a short trip, then it is boiling over when you get home from the heat soak.

There isn't an overflow tanks on Any midyear bigblocks except the '65 and the L-88, What is the temperature that your car is running at normally?
