    MD/VA/DC Service & Loaners

Sport Chevrolet was recommended to me (I bought my car out of state). Sport, like Criswell and Koons, has a dedicated Vette techician. I have taken my Vette there to repair a leaking rear diff and first oil change. Very satisfied. I also have heard good things about Koons and Criswell.

    Reprogram-is it worth it?

Forgot to add - there doesn't seem to be any daily drivability problems from the work that was done.

    Reprogram-is it worth it?

Friend has an 03 coupe. Installed Vortex Rammer, Fast-X, long tube headers, racing cats, Corsa Indies, had LS edit and a few minor things ('stat, etc). Got 425 hp on dyno. But to support other comments - its cost a boat load of cash. Now has concerns that auto tranny can't handle power and...

Z06 Cold Air Screens for the coupe

Couple of install tips. You only need a few strips of velcro. I found better alignment by cutting off the tabs on the lower plastic lips. And the best tip (given to me by someone else) - slide a piece of printer paper or waxed paper between the screens and the velcro that you attached to the...

    C5 Warranty Issues

04 CE coupe, 4300 miles. Just started with the differential leak.

What year is best C5 to buy/why?

IMHO, the substantial discounts and rebates for 04's more than offsets any 1st year depreciation particularly when you take into consideration the fact that you get to take advantage of the full warranty (as opposed to none or a pro rated one). So, while absolute dollars may be less for an...

    Dash Gauge access

Installed the bezels this weekend in under 3 hours. Used the VE instructions. Couldn't have done it without them. It does appear to be a daunting task, but if you follow the instructions/study the pictures, it goes easier than you might think.

What year is best C5 to buy/why?

Although I ended up with an 04, I had concluded that an 01 was probably the best used buy because there were a number of performance/styling improvements made over the 2000 and earlier cars (intake manifolds, MAF [I think], wheels, exhaust tips) , very good low mileage cars were plentiful, prices...

    will a z06 exhaust work on a 2000 coupe

These are available all day long for anywhere from $350 to $600. Its a bolt in that takes less than 1 hour but you gotta get the back end of the car up at least 2.5 feet. A muffler shop should only charge you for about 1 to 1.5 straight labor. Its a good swap if you are looking for slightly...

    Performance Package Question??????

I have the Z51 and was apprehensive about it buying a vette with it. Was talked into it by my Salesperson. Now, I am really glad I got it. I have had a couple of friends with base coupes drive it and they now wish they had it. It actually gives a slightly better (controlled) ride over stock and...

May 2004: C6 Corvette Design: Reality or Restraint?

I am with you on that - Vettes will continue to offer the best overall performance value and that's something to get excited about - - gotta be able to kick azz on Vipers and future Cobras. Peace :beer

May 2004: C6 Corvette Design: Reality or Restraint?

Generally agree but still think the C6 represents some R&D and engineering "creative thinking". The C6 engine has to undergo its own emissions and durability testing to meet Federal standards and quality control since it is a new engine. While the general "technology" has been there, its...

May 2004: C6 Corvette Design: Reality or Restraint?

Its cost a lot of R&D money nowadays to produce a completely new car and car companies are having a tough time at making real money in today's environment. For example, just getting a vehicle Federally certified costs a boat load of cash. Also, production costs are only part of the story - you...

    ZO6 Exhaust

Anything from a car manufacturer represents a compromise - not necessarily a bad thing - there's a large constituency to satisfy. IMO the Z06 is a nice inexpensive upgrade on a stock car where someone doesn't want resonance or more sound. But if you want sound, go with an aftermarket cat back...

    Extended Warrantee

Just for info - in spite of claims by several dealers that their net deals are the best, I found (based on the recommnedaton from the consumer publication Washington Checkbook) that Ourisman Wheaton Chevrolet in Wheaton Maryland had the best price for GMPP. Its not that the net prices were bad...

    Jacking and Jack Stand locations

Follow 1g1yy's advice. Use the 2x6's cut to 25inches - they are exactly right. I used this approach and placed the jack stands on jacking pucks at the side locations. Kept the car up there for 4 days. No probs. Also recommend boards under the front wheels. I didn't drive up on boards - put...

    C5 Oil Changing

Hey - Even I had to laugh at my "rotate the tires" comment after you all pointed out my error!!!!! Was typing the post without thinking - and what I like about the forum is that a person pays the price for not thinking!! I think that I will go out and rotate! ;LOL :D ;LOL

    C5 Oil Changing

Haven't done mine yet - only have 3K miles on it and will likely only have 4K miles on the 1 yr. anniversary of my ownership. I understand that I have to change the oil at least 1x a year to preserve the warranty. I am planning on doing it myself because the local dealer doesn't have a dedicated...

    '04 Coupe-Translucent Top/window film

Most of the parts suppliers (like Ecklers, Mid America, West Coast etc) sell a film made just for the glass tops. I believe that its removable thereby offering an advantage over the window tint film. Tops seem to run around $500 and (way) up so I would try to live with the film, unless you...
