    Rear Shocks (touring, not performance)

Jim, Everyone has their opinions on the Bilstein Shocks. Everyone seems to agree that they are a very aggressive performance shock that ride a lot stiffer than the KYB's. This is what I have gathered: If you like a stiff suspension and/or plan to race or want the car to drive like it's "on...

    Rear Spring Bushings

Cool, That's what I thought. I guess Doc rebuild sells the bushings in case some NCRS wants to keep their original shocks and needs to replace the bushings. Russ

    Rear Spring Bushings

Jack, I have just come to the realization that you have. No one sells Grade 8 bolts longer than 6 inches. Actually, Sears hardware does, but the threading is only about an inch long so I don't think it will work. I guess I'll just pay the exorbatent (sp?) amount from vettebrakes and be done...

    Road Trip

The posi additive goes in the rear end and yes, most shops "should" know how to change it. Just ask ahead of time to confirm. Russ

    Rear Spring Bushings

Yup, poly for me. The price difference is negligible and after examining all of the bushings in the rear, these were the only ones (besides the crossmember bushings) that were actually worn out. I couldn't believe my eyes. My sway bar bushings and trailing arm bushings were both in really...

    Road Trip

I'd check the power steering fluid and double check to make sure the radiator stays cool with the A/C blowing. Also, don't forget to take a small tool kit in case any "improvising" is needed. Have fun, Russ

    Rear Spring Bushings

Bob, The 8 inch bolts are the long bolts! Stock bolts are only 6" or so. Check out this link (hopefully it works) http://www.vettebrakes.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=32306 I found this by doing a product search for bolts in the C2-C3 category. I agree that $10 is pretty much a wash but it's...

    Rear Spring Bushings

Yeah, I saw that they had the kit with the longer bolts, but I don't want to pay $10 extra for a $1.50 part. I know it's only $10 but it's the principality! :) If I don't find them anywhere then I'll just order the kit from VBP. Have you changed your mind then? Russ

    Rear Spring Bushings

Bob, I've been looking around town for some 8" Grade 8 bolts to use instead of the stock ones. That way, if I decide to add a fiberglass spring or if the car sits higher with the new shocks I'll be able to bring the ride height back down. I figure it's better to have the flexibility. I...

    Rear Spring Bushings

Bob, As you know, Bullit and I just took my rear spring off. There is no reason to remove the spring all the way. And although my memory may be fuzzy, I don't remember seing a bushing on the center mounting hardware? Are you going to use the longer style bolts for more ride height...

so many choices, only so many dollars

Ive seen dealers going as much as $6000 off of MSRP (including the $1000 GM rebate) on all 2002's. You definitely should try selling the 98 to a private party since the dealers will not give you much for it. Considering the C6's will be coming out soon, the price for C5's will drop...

    Rear Shocks (touring, not performance)

I found the KYB GR2 shocks for $17 each at Summit, that means $41 with the "handling" fee. I can't believe that Vettebrakes wants $30 each for these shocks! I guess I'll probably order these shocks, since they are well recommended from other forum members and they are the same price (actually...

    Cleaning the rear

The carpeting looks NICE! What kind did you go with (loop, 80-20)? I have a big ugly speaker box in the back of mine that is holding my 2 8" subs, 2 12" subs, 2 6X9's and 2 amps. It really is overkill, but I had been wanting a "ghetto blaster" system since I was 10 and finally spent some...

    Cleaning the rear

Bob, Sounds like your project is coming along as well! I guess you got the heat shielding and carpet installed? I am thinking that all told, I will be at about $410-$450 for the rear end work. Not too bad for everything that's being done. I have no idea what it would take to redo the front...

    Rear Shocks (touring, not performance)

I just looked through my VBP catalogue and they want $29.95 a piece for KYB GR2 shocks. So, I started looking around. I can get gas shocks from Monroe, Napa, or Autozones brand for about $20 each. I like the idea of having the lifetime warranty and local store availability, but I don't want...

    Cleaning the rear

Well, Now that I have the diff and related parts out of the car, I was thinking about cleaning the area up. Bullitt recommended por15 and I've heard good things from others about it. My question is, what has everyone done as far as prepping the surface prior to using por15? I figured sanding...

    My rear is naked!

Yes that's right, Bullitt came over yesterday out of the goodness of his heart and I helped him pull my rear end out of the 77. It was pretty straight forward without much hiccup except for me smashing his hand with the small sledge while hitting out one of the bushings. doh! The only real...

    Q-jet pronounced dead...Stingray 6974 brings it new life !!

Mike will be handling my differential rebuild in a week or two. His price is right on and it's good to know that a fellow CAC member will be doing the work right. I'll let you all know how it goes. Russ

I'm not sure, but I believe my 77 has white numbers up to 140. I can confirm tonight. Russ

    auto to 4speed conversion confusion

Why a 4 speed? If you're gonna convert it, why not go to a TKO or a ROD unit? Just about anyone with a manual 4 speed wishes it was a 5 or 6speed. Ask anyone and they'll tell you they wish their 4 speed with 370's had an overdrive. My $0.02 Russ
