You could always leave the pump alone and just buy a higher capacity oil pan. This of course would be more costly than a pump change. It would also probably need a different pickup as well.

I'm in the same boat. My PO installed a Mallory Unilite without vacuum advance. Try running your initial timing at 24 and your total at 36 (thanks to Lars for this tip). You will gain better throttle response and better gas mileage with a dist with vac advance.

What is that hard line that runs along the valve cover? It looks like the fuel line comes up from the pump, runs along the intake, and then makes a 180 degree turn into the backward installed fuel inlet.

Most 79 L-48's came with 3.55's .

Make sure you get the right size for your valve guide. My AFR's took a .531 diameter.

1. I used viton 2. I got mine from Comp 3. Kit comes with a little plastic sleeve to put on the valve stem. Use a retainer to push them on. 4. Use a little oil to get it over the stem.

Mikey, I live in the same town as the "Black 73" that is for sale here. I was just mentioning that I have never seen this particular car locally.

I wish the guy would have posted a pic of the motor on Craig's list. A Dominator carb on a daily driver seems odd. I don't ever remember seeing a black 73 at any of the local cruise-ins. Seems like a nice car just heed Mikey's advice and make sure it is rust free.

Sounds like a leaking head gasket. Try retorquing the heads first. What kind of gaskets and sealer did you use?
