    Paint Protectors

I had the 3M material put on my rocker panels for the 50th caravan last year and I am less than impressed with the results. Some of the rocks penetrated through the film and still took paint off the the panels. It also bubbled in some spots. One of the sides looked so bad after the trip I...

Fob not working after hooking up battery

Yep, you need to retrain the fob to the car. Somewhere in the manual is the procedure for doing this operation. Too lazy to go out in the garage and look up the page number. It is pretty straightforward. Paul

What's best for removing road tar

Second the above, plus 3-in-1 oil and believe it or not, Pond's cold cream (and women put that stuff on their face). Good luck. Paul

Replace front tires only, or all 4?

Hi Fred, you have asked some good questions and I don't have any definitive answers but would like to input my thoughts for your C5. First, I don't know how you drive your Corvette, low and slow, normal, aggressively, or pedal to the metal. Second, living on the Gulf Coast, I assume you do drive...

    My 2003 Vette pings

Try another brand of gas. We have found that ARCO gasoline will cause Corvettes to ping as well as some off brands. In the good old days, Texaco was the best but now it has morphed into Shell. I find that Exxon/Mobile gives acceptable performance as well as Chevron and Shell. I would not use...

Updated: Personal Opinion on the C6

Rob, I don't own a ZR-1 but I understand your passion for it. I was lucky enough in 1989 to have Chevrolet loan me a 1989 to display and show to the NCRS. Yes, there really was a 1989 ZR-1, it just never made it to production. I can still hear those great chain driven cam sounds today. It...

    Oxidation Remover

If your paint is enamel, you will not pick up color with a cleaner. Only lacquer will show color on your polishing rag as it is still "live" paint. The best polish I have found for my lacquered 1979 is Griots hand polish. Meguiar's no. 7 is also very good but very tempermental with weather...

Keep the level up - Your fuel pump will last longer!

Ken, excellent advice. I admit I have been guilty of this in the past but no more. Thanks for the warning.

    Oil Question....

In my two C4s and two C5s, I have used nothing but 10W-30 Mobile 1. Call me old school but 5W-30 seems just a little too thin for warm weather. You will probably notice a little higher gas mileage with the thinner oil but while getting over 28 mpg as it is, I'll stick with the 10W-30. Good luck...

    Door hinge spring -help installing

Listen to TSKER79. Be sure you tap the spring into its seat with a good tap with a small hammer. Makes all the difference.

    A Few questions>>>

No need to aplogize for your "poor English". Just read some of the other posts by so called English speaking Americans. Their English is atrocious and makes one wonder if they ever attended an English class in school. You are doing just fine. Regards, Paul

    M6 owners, 1st gear selection

I had the same problem(?) with the 98 I owned for six years. As it was explained to me, the mn6 has a set of three synchronizers and you have to work through all three to get a complete engagement in first gear. If things aren't all aligned, you will have to double clutch it to get the proper...

    Run Flat repair

The greatest danger you will face is going to a shop that doesn't understand runflats. If they don't have a "no touch" mounting machine, they will try to pry the tire off using the rim as leverage. The result will be a severely dinged up rim. Ask around the Corvette community where you live...

    First Oil Change

It is still applicable today. Metal still wears. Be sure and change the filer also. Have a great time in the great new ride. Paul

    California Emissions ?

There is no difference in the Vettes from California or any other state. I am not sure just when the commonality in the cars occurred, but sometime in the early 90's is my guess. The CA emissions option on the window sticker is to cover the additonal testing required by CA on new cars. The...

    1979 Rear Window Molding

1979 Read Window Molding I also have a 1979 and the paint had been removed from the rear molding when I bought it. The black paint is correct for the 1979 model but the molding was bright on the 1978s. I guess it depends on whether you want "correct" or "preferred". Good luck with the...

    C5 Fuel Filter Service

Dick Guldstrand told me to never exceed 15,000 miles on a C5 fuel filter. I would not exceed 50K miles on the transmission fluid. I agree with the prior posts that over $400 sounds excessive. Shop around. Good luck, Paul

    Tire recommendations for my 79

Don, I just put Dunlop 255-60-R15s on my 79 and there is no problem with the bodywork. l have had this car for over 20 years and have put nothing but the 255s on it. Your choices of brands is now somewhat limited with primarily Dunlop and Goodyear your choices. The Dunlop Eliminators were...

    my 98 problems, problems.. :(

I had the same "reduced power service traction control" problem and did another member of my club. In both cases it was a defective accelerator pedal assemby. After replacement, it never happened again (four years ago). The tech at my local Chevy dealer found it immediately using the...

    Real bad engine miss...any suggestions

Think vacuum leak. The L98 had more than its share of problems with oil and vacuum leaks around the intake manifold.
