    That is $250 per wheel.

    Clunking sound

I found a local shop that will do the job for $250. It is my first time dealing with him. I have heard that he is a good guy. We shall see.

    Clunking sound

Just heard from the Chevy dealer. He wants, if nothing unusual pops up, at least $850 to do the rear wheels! Yikes! Time to call the local garages. One has already said he doesn't do Vettes. This may be one illustration of the disadvantages of living in a small town.

What does the vacumm hose for the heater selector do? What would be the symptons of it 'leaking'?

    Clunking sound

The only place around here that I can think of is the Chevy dealer. I'm sure that will be cheap.

    Electronic ignition

I went exploring after work today. It definitely has HEI (dummy). I removed the cap. The contacts are worn as is the tip of the rotor. I think it should be replaced. I assume the coil comes with it as one unit? I was fooling around with the choke and started the car. While I was checking the...

    Clunking sound

OK... I jacked up each rear wheel. The right one had minimal movement. The left one, however, was a diffreent story (I always thought the clunk was coming from the left rear). I grasped it at 12 & 6, and than at 3 & 9. In each case, when I moved the wheel there was significant movement. In fact...

    Kinda bummin right now

From what I remember about doing exhaust work, it requires torches and other implements of destruction to get to old rusted pieces off. But it saounds like a good time anyway.

Minnesota doesn't have emissions testing anymore. The EPA is causing the fuss.

    Kinda bummin right now

I live in a relatively small town. I called the local exhaust shop. I was trying to get an estimate of the charges for them to put on "true" dual exhaust, after I get some headers, and not include the cats. Their answer; "Ain't gonna happen. $10,000 fine." They said the exhaust has to be 'bone...

    Electronic ignition

I will check them out after work tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestions. I decided not to sell it (and buy a 64 Galaxie 500 XL). So now I have to get it back to 'smooth'.

    Electronic ignition

:duh I guess I can scratch that "upgrade" off my list. However, it has started running 'rough' lately. Maybe the HEI needs to be looked at.

    Electronic ignition

The car is sounding like it needs a tune up. I am thinking that this may be the time to switch over from points to electronic ignition. Are there any recommendations for a 78 L48? I assume it is a job that a shade tree mechanic can do.
